Kathryn Hahn, who plays the chaotic marketing executive Maya Mason on Apple TV+’s The Studio, has shared new thoughts on what could be in store for the show’s second season. While specific plot details remain under wraps, Hahn discussed potential new filming locations and how her character might hilariously latch onto outdated internet trends.
The hit comedy series, starring and co-created by Seth Rogen, was officially renewed for a second season in May 2025. The show earned widespread praise for its sharp satire of the Hollywood film industry and scored a major win as Outstanding Comedy Series at the 2025 Emmy Awards. As production for the new season gets underway, Hahn’s recent comments offer the first clues about where the Continental Studios team might be headed next.
Expanding Beyond Hollywood: Venice and New York in the Mix
For its first season, The Studio was firmly planted in the fictional “Hollywoodland.” According to Kathryn Hahn, that setting could expand significantly in the new episodes. The actress referenced rumors that production might film in Venice and New York.
“I know that he was spotted in Venice, and I know that my passport is up to date, so I’m willing to go anywhere,” Hahn said in an interview with Collider. “Both of those things sound really, really ripe, because we’ve only really seen them in Hollywoodland, so it would be very interesting to see.”
This idea aligns with the creators’ expressed interest in exploring a major international film festival as a storyline. Hahn even joked about the potential for a Venice Film Festival episode centered on an absurdly long standing ovation, a known spectacle at such events.
The show’s writers have publicly stated that an episode set at a major festival was a dream for the first season that they didn’t get to film, making it a prime target for Season 2. Moving the cast to these glamorous, high-pressure locations would open up new comedic scenarios as the executives navigate junkets, red carpets, and the global movie market.
Maya Mason’s Lagging Trend Forecast
A key part of Maya Mason’s character is her desperate attempt to appear culturally savvy, often missing the mark. Hahn revealed how this trait could play out with specific, real-world trends that have already peaked online.
When asked if Maya would be seen with a Labubu (a popular collectible figure) or using the phrase “6-7,” Hahn suggested these trends would be perfect for her character precisely because they will likely be past their prime by the time Season 2 airs.
“I feel like by the time we see her — heaven forbid, I’m not wishing this on anyone — but the Labubu might be in the past. In terms of 6-7, it would be amazing if she started spouting that, although that might also be in the past, too, which is why both of these things should be uttered by her in Season 2,” Hahn explained.
This approach continues the show’s clever commentary on the speed of internet culture and the entertainment industry’s often-delayed attempts to capitalize on it. In Season 1, Maya’s obsession with a Stanley Cup was a perfect example of her latching onto a trend just as it was becoming mainstream cliché.
Looking Back at a Record-Breaking First Season
The Studio quickly became a critical and awards season darling following its March 2025 debut. The series set a record by becoming the most-nominated comedy debut in Emmys history, a success that led to its swift renewal just two weeks before the Season 1 finale aired.
The show features Rogen as Matt Remick, the overwhelmed new head of the struggling Continental Studios. His core team includes Hahn’s Maya, Catherine O’Hara as veteran executive Patty, Ike Barinholtz as head of production Sal, and Chase Sui Wonders as creative executive Quinn.
A major draw was its lineup of celebrity cameos playing twisted versions of themselves, including Martin Scorsese, Zoë Kravitz, and Olivia Wilde. Co-creator Evan Goldberg noted that after the show’s success, the number of stars asking to make cameos increased dramatically.
The Season 1 finale left the fate of Continental Studios hanging in the balance. The team staged a risky presentation at CinemaCon in a last-ditch effort to prevent the studio from being bought by a tech giant like Amazon. Whether they succeeded will be a central question for the new season.

What Else to Expect in Season 2
While official story details are scarce, the creators and cast have dropped a few hints. Chase Sui Wonders, who plays Quinn, suggested Season 2 will continue to explore the “chosen family of wackos” that make up the Continental team.
Co-creators Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have said they are overflowing with ideas. Goldberg mentioned they started with 30 episode concepts and generated 20 more between seasons. Rogen has also hinted that one potential storyline could revolve around the Oscars.
The writers’ room will welcome some new talent, including Oscar-winning writer and director Sarah Polley, who made a cameo in Season 1. Rogen said her experience with awards campaigns will be valuable as the show delves deeper into that world.
The production received a significant financial boost in August 2025, securing $13 million in tax credits from the state of California. This support confirms the series will continue filming in California, even as stories may take the characters abroad.
Fans can expect the full core cast to return. As for new guest stars, Hahn shared her own wishlist, expressing a desire to see her Agatha All Along co-star Aubrey Plaza and the legendary Patti LuPone make appearances.
An official release date for The Studio Season 2 on Apple TV+ has not been announced. All episodes of the first season are currently available for streaming on the platform.
