Jenny Han, the creator of the popular series The Summer I Turned Pretty, has shared a clear update on the much-talked-about movie. She confirmed the script is finished but revealed that cameras have not started rolling, managing expectations for fans hoping for a quick return to Cousins Beach.
During The Wrap’s 2025 Power Women Summit on December 2, Han gave a straightforward progress report. “I just wrote it,” Han stated. “We have not filmed anything yet”. This simple comment from the author and showrunner provides the most current status of the project, which Prime Video officially confirmed on September 17, 2025.

Han specifically mentioned this fan hope and set the record straight. “I know that everyone was hoping that it was coming out this Christmas,” she said, “but unfortunately, not happening, not possible”.
