The first full-length trailer for The Witcher Season 4 is here, introducing fans to Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt of Rivia. The footage shows a Witcher in a state of change, assembling a team to battle dark forces and save Ciri. The season will be released on October 30, 2025 on Netflix.
A New Geralt for a Changed Continent
The trailer begins by acknowledging the shift, both for the character and the show. A voiceover from the new character Regis, played by Laurence Fishburne, sets the stage: “Geralt, you’ve spent a lifetime battling monsters and men. Your entire being is dedicated to finding someone who you fear you failed.” That someone is Ciri. The trailer confirms that Hemsworth has taken over the role of the White Wolf from Henry Cavill, who left the series after three seasons.
The official synopsis for the season states that after the major events of Season 3, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri are separated by a raging war and many enemies. As they travel on their own paths, they find new allies. If they can learn to trust these new groups, they might have a chance to reunite for good.
The Mission: Find Ciri and Build an Army
The central plot driving Season 4 is Geralt’s desperate search for Ciri. Yennefer reveals that the powerful and treacherous mage Vilgefortz is building a dark army, and Ciri is stuck at the center of his plans. The only way to stop him is for Geralt to build his own army.
In the trailer, Geralt is not alone. He is joined by his bard friend Jaskier and the fighter Milva. They are also accompanied by new faces, including the world-wise barber-surgeon Regis. This group forms the core of what book fans will recognize as Geralt’s “hansa,” or his traveling company. The trailer shows the group facing various threats, from soldiers to a giant ogre and a ghostly wraith.
Liam Hemsworth shared his thoughts on stepping into the role, stating, โI was such a big fan of this character, so it was a bit of those pinch-yourself moments of walking around in this costume.โ He described his version of Geralt as being driven by one goal: โWe pick up Geralt having just left Brokilon, heโs with Milva and Jaskier, and his main driving force is to get to Ciri and make sure that sheโs safe.โ
Ciri and Yennefer’s Separate Journeys
While Geralt searches for Ciri, the Princess of Cintra is on her own dangerous path. After the events of the previous season, Ciri has taken on a new identity as Falka and is traveling with a band of teenage outlaws known as the Rats. This new group leads her toward a fiercer and more violent side as she deals with the pain of her past.
Meanwhile, Yennefer is facing the aftermath at Aretuza. With her mentor Tissaia gone, she has stepped into a leadership role. In the trailer, she recognizes the scale of their enemy, declaring, โWe can live if we build an army of our own.โ Her journey in Season 4 will involve leading the sorceresses and making tough choices about how to confront the growing threat.
Key New Characters Joining the Fray
Season 4 introduces several important new characters from the books. The most prominent is Regis, played by Laurence Fishburne. Regis is a sophisticated barber-surgeon with a mysterious past who becomes a crucial part of Geralt’s team.
โIโm a big fan of fantasy and science fiction, and when they asked me to join them, I was like, โOh, this is interesting,โโ Fishburne said about joining the cast. โThis is something Iโve always wished to be able to do, and now Iโm getting an opportunity to do it.โ
Other new additions include Sharlto Copley as the infamous bounty hunter Leo Bonhart, James Purefoy as Skellen, and Danny Woodburn as the dwarf Zoltan. These characters will add new layers of conflict and alliance as the story expands.
A Look at Liam Hemsworth’s Transformation
Stepping into a role made famous by another actor is a challenge, and the production team has worked to make Hemsworth’s Geralt feel both fresh and authentic. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich expressed her confidence in the new Witcher. โThe very first time that I met with Liam Hemsworth, in my gut, I knew that he would make a perfect Geralt for us in Season 4,” she said.
Hemsworth underwent a significant physical transformation for the role, starting training months before filming began. The character’s look has also been updated. Geralt now sports a noticeable scar on his face, and his costume has been adjusted with a lower-slung belt to give it a slightly more Western feel.
The Final Chapters Begin
The Witcher Season 4 will consist of eight episodes. It is the first of two final seasons that Netflix is filming back-to-back to conclude the series. Seasons 4 and 5 are set to adapt the last three books in Andrzej Sapkowski’s series: Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake.
Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich promised an intense journey for the characters, noting, โWe send them each on their own journey โ a very different journey than anything theyโve done before, which is where we start in Season 4.โ
