In a definitive statement, movie star Timothée Chalamet has confirmed he has no plans to ever return to television for an acting role. The actor, known for major films like Dune and Wonka, firmly closed the door on a TV comeback, marking a clear focus on his big-screen career.
The Actor’s Clear Stance on Television
When directly asked in a recent interview if he would consider acting in a television show again, Chalamet’s answer was simple and assured: “No.” He did not include any exceptions for a particular project or director, making his position on the matter clear. This stance comes at a time when many award-winning film actors frequently take on high-profile roles in series for streaming services and networks.
Chalamet’s last credited role in a scripted television series was in 2012, with a recurring part on the Showtime drama Homeland. This means he has stayed away from TV acting for over a decade, solidifying his dedication to film.
From Early TV Roles to Movie Stardom
Like many actors, Timothée Chalamet began his career with roles on television. His early credits include a guest spot on Law & Order in 2009, followed by recurring roles on Royal Pains and Homeland. After his role on Homeland, he shifted his focus entirely to movies.
His early film work included a role in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar in 2014. His big break came in 2017 with Call Me by Your Name, which earned him his first Academy Award nomination. Since then, he has starred in a string of successful films, including Lady Bird, Little Women, and the Dune series. In 2024, he earned significant praise and a SAG Award for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown.
A Candid Look at Awards Season
Chalamet has also been open about the realities of the awards circuit. After his recent Oscar loss for A Complete Unknown, he shared a relatable perspective on the experience.
“If there’s five people at an awards show, and four people go home losing,” Chalamet said, “You don’t think those four people are at the restaurant like, ‘Damn, we didn’t win’? I’ve been around some deeply generous, no-ego actors, and maybe some of them are going, ‘That was fun.’ But I know for a fact a lot of them are going, ‘Fuck!’”
He added, “People can call me a try-hard, and they can say whatever the fuck, but I’m the one actually doing it here.”
What’s Next for the Film-Focused Star
Chalamet’s upcoming projects confirm his commitment to feature films. He is set to star in Marty Supreme, a sports drama from director Josh Safdie and A24, where he plays a table tennis prodigy. The film has a release date of February 18, 2026.
Following that, he will reprise his role as Paul Atreides in Dune: Part Three, the conclusion to director Denis Villeneuve’s epic sci-fi trilogy. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on September 16, 2026. Another project, High Side, a motocross thriller directed by James Mangold, is also in development.
