The eighth episode of Tracker Season 3, titled “Eurydice,” delivered a tense and emotional story about a missing girl and a mother desperate to prove her innocence. Aired on CBS on December 7, 2025, the episode saw Colter Shaw take on a year-old cold case where the grieving mother, not a stranger, was the town’s primary suspect. The investigation uncovered a painful family secret and posed difficult questions about right and wrong.

The Case of the Missing Girl and the Suspect Mother

The episode begins with a flashback to Sierra Allen waking up from a drunken state to find her young daughter, Aubrey, missing from their home. The story then jumps forward one year. Sierra, now sober for ten months, contacts Colter for help. Her reason for calling him instead of the police is urgent: she has just found her daughter’s favorite dress hanging on her backyard clothesline. The dress is ripped and stained with what looks like blood.

The local police, led by Detective Tyson West, have always believed Sierra was responsible for Aubrey’s disappearance. A bloodstain was found in the home the night Aubrey vanished, and Sierra’s struggles with addiction made her an easy target for blame. Finding the dress only makes the police more certain of her guilt, and they move to arrest her for murder. Colter’s mission becomes a race against time to find the truth before Sierra is formally charged.

Colter advises her, “I promise to do everything I can to help you through this”.

Following the Clues From a Dress to a Dangerous Family

Knowing the dress is the key, Colter focuses on who planted it. With help from his tech expert, Randy, he finds security footage showing a teenager on a bike placing the dress in the yard. The boy’s hoodie leads Colter to a local restaurant and identifies him as Spencer Flint.

Spencer is terrified of his father, Trevor. He tells Colter he found the dress in an old storage shed on their property and put it in Sierra’s yard because he thought it would help the investigation. He fears his father or his uncle, Derek, had something to do with Aubrey’s disappearance. Colter and Detective West search the shed and make a critical discovery: one of Aubrey’s shoes and a clump of her hair, along with hair dye. This suggests Derek took Aubrey and altered her appearance, meaning she might still be alive.

Colter locates Derek’s last known location—a shoreline two miles away. There, he makes a grisly find: a skeleton in the water, missing two fingers. Trevor had previously confessed to chopping off two of his brother Derek’s fingers. Derek had been shot in the head. The land where the body was found is owned by a trust connected to Arthur Poness, the former lead detective who was brought in as a consultant on Sierra’s case.

A Shocking Family Connection and a Moral Dilemma

The investigation takes its most dramatic turn when Colter searches Arthur’s home. He finds a child’s bedroom and pictures of Aubrey with Arthur and his wife, Iris, labeled “Grandma” and “Grandpa”. Colter learns the shocking truth: Arthur is Aubrey’s grandfather. His son, Jason, was Aubrey’s father, a fact Sierra had never shared.

Arthur explains that during his original investigation, he discovered Derek had kidnapped Aubrey. He rescued his granddaughter, but instead of returning her to Sierra—a mother he saw as unfit due to her addiction—he made a choice. He and his wife told Aubrey her mother was dead and kept her, believing they were giving her a safer, more stable life.

Arthur tells Colter, “She’s safe. She’s loved. That’s more than Sierra ever gave her”.

This revelation creates the episode’s central moral conflict. Arthur and Iris genuinely love Aubrey and believed they were saving her. Meanwhile, Sierra’s grief over losing her daughter was the catalyst that finally pushed her into recovery and sobriety. The episode shows there are no easy answers, as both sides made serious mistakes while acting out of love for the same child.

The Confrontation and an Emotional Reunion

Arthur, now desperate to keep his family together, takes Detective West hostage and flees with Iris and Aubrey to his boat, named Eurydice. Colter races to the dock, where Arthur shoots at him. After a struggle in the water, Colter disarms Arthur.

Iris, seeing the situation is hopeless, tells her husband to stop. She then calls for Aubrey to come out of hiding. The young girl emerges, and Colter safely returns her to a waiting and overwhelmed Sierra. The family is reunited, but the emotional scars of the past year are deep for everyone involved.

In a brief final scene, Colter meets with his attorney, Reenie Green, who has been assisting Sierra. They share a moment of quiet reflection on the difficult case.

Reenie says to Sierra, “I’ve seen a lot in my line of work… and one thing that I know for sure: recovery is not linear”.
