The popular Portuguese Netflix series Turn of the Tide (original title Rabo de Peixe) will not return for a fourth season. The streaming platform released the third season on April 10, 2026, which serves as the final chapter of the crime drama that captured audiences worldwide.
The show follows four friends from a small fishing village in the Azores who find a large amount of cocaine washed ashore and decide to sell it, leading them into dangerous situations with criminals and police.
Season 3 Was Always Planned as The Ending
Turn of the Tide creator Augusto Fraga made the decision to end the series with Season 3. Both the second and third seasons were filmed back-to-back, with the ending already set while working on Season 2.
“My proposal was to close the story in the third season so that there would be no more,” Fraga told Portuguese media outlet NiT.
The showrunner wanted to give the characters a proper finish rather than leaving fans without answers. The third season wraps up all major storylines and provides closure for Eduardo and his friends.
What Happens in The Final Season
Season 3 picks up three years after the previous season’s events. Eduardo (played by José Condessa) gets out of prison and returns to Rabo de Peixe, only to find the island changed by economic and political forces threatening local families.
He reunites with his three friends – Sílvia (Helena Caldeira), Rafael (Rodrigo Tomás), and Carlinhos (André Leitão) – to form a group called “Night Justice” or “Night Vigilantes.” The group aims to protect their community and fight against injustice. But as the movement gains power, the line between right and wrong starts to blur.
The season has six episodes. The finale shows Eduardo exposing the truth about a powerful figure named Moniz. A volcanic eruption on the island helps the Night Vigilantes escape. Inspector Paula Frias (Maria João Bastos) meets a tragic end after searching for her missing daughter.
Why Netflix Will Not Make Season 4
Netflix Vice President for Spain, Portugal and Nordics Diego Ávalos had already confirmed that Seasons 2 and 3 were being filmed together. He emphasized that local stories like this Portuguese drama matter as much as international productions.
The third season intentionally ends without cliffhangers. Bringing the characters back into the world of crime and drugs would feel forced after they finally found peace. The creators wanted to end the story at its natural point rather than stretching it beyond reason.
