Vijay Sethupathi’s latest movie Ace has made a quick jump from theaters to streaming. The romantic crime comedy started streaming on Amazon Prime Video on June 14, 2025, just three weeks after its theatrical release on May 23.
The film follows Kannan (played by Sethupathi), a man trying to start fresh abroad. His life takes a dangerous turn when a heist goes wrong, pulling him into a criminal underworld. The movie blends humor, romance, and crime, offering a mix of lighthearted and intense moments.
Despite high expectations, Ace had a slow run in theaters. It earned around โน6.47 crore in India, falling short of predictions. Vijay Sethupathi admitted the film’s rushed release and weak promotions affected its performance.
“Normally, after completing a movie, there is a period dedicated to promotions. But we only started promotional activities a week before the release.”
The film also marks the Tamil debut of Kannada actress Rukmini Vasanth, known for Sapta Sagaradaache Ello. The supporting cast includes Yogi Babu, BS Avinash, Babloo Prithiveeraj, Divya Pillai, and Ramesh Thilak.
Directed by Arumuga Kumar, Ace was shot mostly in Malaysia. The music was composed by Justin Prabhakaran, with background scores by Sam CS. The filmโs quick OTT release gives it a second chance to connect with audiences.
Fans who missed Ace in theaters are now sharing mixed reactions online. Some called it a fun watch, while others found it uneven.
“Loooove this movie. Totally a stress reliever.”
“Worst movie. Music acting story writing.”
Currently, Ace is trending at #3 on Prime Video in India. The film is available in Tamil and Telugu.
