Netflix has officially announced Virgin River Season 8, ensuring more small-town drama, romance, and fresh faces in the beloved series. The show, starring Alexandra Breckenridge as Mel Monroe and Martin Henderson as Jack Sheridan, will return with another 10-episode season following the upcoming Season 7.

The early renewal comes just as production wrapped on Season 7, which is expected to premiere in late 2025 or early 2026. This makes Virgin River Netflix’s longest-running English-language original drama, surpassing shows like Grace and Frankie and Orange Is the New Black.

New Faces and Storylines in Virgin River Season 8

While Season 7 will focus on Mel and Jack’s married life and their plans to start a family, Season 8 will introduce new characters and challenges. Austin Nichols, known for One Tree Hill and The Walking Dead, has joined the cast in a mystery role. His Instagram post hinted at his involvement, saying:

“Just landed in Virgin… I mean Vancouver. Starting a new job. Can’t wait for the fans to see it.”

Additionally, Season 7 will feature Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries) and Cody Kearsley (Riverdale) as new residents stirring up drama in Virgin River.

Why Netflix Renewed Virgin River Early

Netflix’s decision to renew Virgin River ahead of Season 7’s release reflects the show’s strong performance. Since its debut in 2019, the series has spent 38 weeks in Nielsen’s Top 10 and generated over 140 million views globally. Season 6 debuted at No. 1 on Netflix’s Top 10 list, proving its lasting appeal.

Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith shared his gratitude:

“On behalf of myself and the whole Virgin River family, we’re eternally grateful to Netflix and to the fans for allowing us to continue on this journey with these beloved characters.”

The early renewal also helps reduce long gaps between seasons, a common frustration among fans, especially after delays caused by the 2023 Hollywood strikes.

What to Expect in Virgin River Season 7 Before Season 8

Season 7 will explore Mel and Jack’s life as newlyweds while they prepare for parenthood. Meanwhile, Doc (Tim Matheson) and Hope (Annette O’Toole) will work to protect the town’s clinic from outside threats. The season also includes filming in Mexico, a first for the series, suggesting a possible honeymoon or adoption storyline.

Fans can expect answers to lingering questions, such as:

  • What happened to Charmaine?
  • Will Mel and Jack adopt Marley’s baby?
  • How will the new characters Victoria and Clay impact the town?

Virgin River’s Record-Breaking Success

With 84 episodes by the end of Season 8, Virgin River stands as Netflix’s most enduring live-action scripted series. Its mix of small-town charm, emotional storytelling, and strong fan engagement has kept it a top performer. The show is based on Robyn Carr’s bestselling novels, adding to its loyal audience.

When Will Virgin River Season 8 Release?

No official date has been set for Season 8, but filming is expected to begin soon after Season 7’s debut. Given Netflix’s usual schedule, Season 8 could arrive in late 2026 or early 2027.

For now, fans can look forward to 20 new episodes10 in Season 7 and 10 in Season 8—ensuring more heartwarming and dramatic moments in Virgin River.
