The final season of The Boys is almost here, but fans eager for the Soldier Boy spin-off Vought Rising will need to wait a bit longer. Showrunner Eric Kripke just shared a straight answer about when the 1950s-set prequel will actually arrive on Prime Video. The new series stars Jensen Ackles returning as Soldier Boy and Aya Cash as Stormfront, diving into the dark early days of the Vought corporation. While filming wrapped in March 2026, the show needs significant post-production time before it hits screens.
Kripke Confirms 2027 Release Window for Vought Rising
Eric Kripke told Collider that Vought Rising will release in 2027, with no chance of arriving this year. The delay comes down to a simple but time-consuming reason: visual effects. Kripke explained that finishing all the VFX work alone will take about eight months. The team won’t complete that work until November or December 2026 at the earliest. After that, Amazon needs extra time to localize the show for different markets around the world. Kripke mentioned the show might arrive “a couple months into 2027,” purely because of these logistical needs.
“There was never any thought of releasing it this year. It’s not so much about the marketing plan as much as it’s gonna take us eight months to just even finish all the VFX. So, we’re not going to be done until November, December at the earliest anyway, and then Amazon needs time to localize it to all the different markets.” – Eric Kripke
Kripke has already seen cuts through the seventh episode and shared positive feedback about how the show is coming together. He believes audiences will enjoy what the team has created.
The Soldier Boy Prequel Is Built for Multiple Seasons
Jensen Ackles confirmed that Vought Rising was planned as a multi-season show from the very start. When producers pitched the idea to him, Ackles said he agreed immediately without even hearing the full pitch. The actor shared that the series will show Soldier Boy in his proper environment, where he is the top superhero. Unlike The Boys, where Soldier Boy feels like a man out of his time, the prequel places him exactly where he belongs.
Ackles also noted that the show will peel back the layers of Soldier Boy’s past. Viewers will see why he turned out the way he did. Kripke added that Paul Grellong, who runs Vought Rising and worked with Kripke on previous shows, already has exciting ideas for a second season. Grellong has been sharing these concepts with the team as production moves forward.
What to Expect From Vought Rising Season 1
Vought Rising takes place in the 1950s and follows a different format than The Boys. The show is described as a dark, noir-style murder mystery rather than a straight superhero action series. The story will explore the early years of Soldier Boy and Stormfront (known in that era as Clara Vought), showing how the Vought corporation first rose to power. The series is set in 1950s New York and focuses on a twisted murder case tied to the company’s origins.

The Boys Universe Continues Beyond the Main Show
The Boys fifth and final season premieres on April 8, 2026. Kripke has been clear that this season ends the main story between Butcher and Homelander. But he also stated that The Boys franchise “can and should continue” with other spin-offs. Gen V Season 2 already premiered on September 17, 2025, and another spin-off called The Boys: Mexico is also in development.
Vought Rising will become the fourth project in The Boys universe, joining the main series, Gen V, and the animated The Boys Presents: Diabolical. With filming complete and post-production moving forward, fans can expect the Soldier Boy prequel to land on Prime Video sometime in 2027.
