The upcoming JTBC drama We Are All Trying Here is building serious buzz as it gets ready to premiere next month. The show comes from writer Park Hae-young, known for her deeply emotional works like “My Mister” and “My Liberation Notes,” and director Cha Young-hoon, who helmed “When the Camellia Blooms” and “Welcome to Samdal-ri.” With such a strong creative team and a cast of top-tier actors, this series is already one of the most talked-about Korean dramas of 2026.

The story follows people struggling with envy and jealousy as they search for peace in their lives. Set against the backdrop of the South Korean film industry, the drama explores what happens when success and failure create tension between friends and colleagues.

The Main Cast Bringing the Story to Life

Koo Kyo-hwan as Hwang Dong Man

Koo Kyo-hwan takes on the lead role of Hwang Dong Man, a man who feels like he is the only one left behind while all his friends have found success. Dong Man is part of a famous film industry group called “The Eight,” but he is the only member who has not yet debuted as a director. For 20 years, he has been trying to make his mark, but he remains stuck in place.

To hide his feelings of worthlessness, Dong Man covers his anxiety with long, rambling speeches and a bold exterior. But inside, he is fighting a constant battle against self-doubt. The first poster for the drama shows his shadow throwing punches at an invisible force, representing the internal struggle he faces every day. The production team explained that the image captures the inner darkness that makes a person feel worthless, showing that even when someone looks like they have given up, there are still battles happening inside them.

Go Youn-jung as Byeon Eun Ah

Go Youn-jung plays Byeon Eun Ah, a producer at the film company Choi Film. Her colleagues call her “The Ax” because her reviews of scripts are so sharp and direct. She is known for being calm and balanced, but underneath that composed exterior, she carries deep anger and fear.

Eun Ah has a hidden side that comes out when her emotions reach a breaking point. When stress builds up too much, she experiences nosebleeds as a physical reaction to her inner turmoil. Her path crosses with Dong Man, and through their connection, she slowly begins to heal her emotional wounds. The production team praised Go Youn-jung for capturing the complex layers of her character with steady, powerful acting.

Oh Jung-se as Park Kyung Se

Oh Jung-se portrays Park Kyung Se, a film director who has already made five feature films. But after his most recent movie failed at the box office, he finds himself in a downward spiral. He becomes especially bothered by Dong Man, who represents everything Kyung Se fears becoming—someone stuck and going nowhere.

Kyung Se’s sense of inferiority grows as he compares himself to others, and his frustration pushes him to the edge. The drama shows how professional failure can shake a person to their core, especially when success seems to come so easily to everyone else around them.

Kang Mal-geum as Go Hye Jin

Kang Mal-geum stars as Go Hye Jin, the CEO of the film production company GoBak Film. She is also the wife of Park Kyung Se. Hye Jin is a sharp, decisive leader who runs her company with clear vision. She has a talent for delivering blunt truths that force people to face reality, but underneath that tough exterior, she has deep affection for both movies and the people in her life.

Hye Jin runs the gathering place for “The Eight” group, where the film industry friends meet. She listens patiently to Dong Man’s endless rambling, but she also has a firm line she will not let anyone cross. When Dong Man goes too far, she bans him from the hideout without hesitation. At the same time, she watches her husband struggle with his own issues and tries to keep him from destroying himself. The production team said Kang Mal-geum brought out every human side of Hye Jin with her unique acting style, and viewers can look forward to her dignified presence that balances the tension in the show.

Park Hae-joon as Hwang Jin Man

Park Hae-joon takes on the role of Hwang Jin Man, the older brother of Dong Man. Jin Man used to be a poet, but after experiencing failure and losing his creative spark, he has withdrawn from the world. Now he works odd jobs in construction to get by, feeling empty and without purpose.

This role marks a reunion between Park Hae-joon and writer Park Hae-young, as they worked together previously on the acclaimed drama “My Mister” seven years ago. Jin Man represents what can happen when a person loses their sense of identity and struggles to find their way back.

Supporting Cast Adds More Depth

Han Sun-hwa as Jang Mi Ran

Han Sun-hwa joins the cast as Jang Mi Ran, a top movie star. Her character adds another layer to the story, showing the pressures that come with fame and success in the entertainment industry.

Choi Won-young as Choi Representative

Choi Won-young plays the Choi Representative, who runs the film company Choi Film where Eun Ah works. His character oversees the business side of the film world, representing the industry pressures that affect all the characters.

When and Where to Watch

We Are All Trying Here is scheduled to premiere on April 18, 2026, at 10:40 PM KST on JTBC. For international viewers, the series will also be available for streaming on Netflix in selected regions. The show will run for 12 episodes.

The drama brings together a team that has created some of the most meaningful Korean dramas of the past decade. Writer Park Hae-young has a gift for finding the humanity in everyday struggles, and director Cha Young-hoon knows how to bring those stories to life on screen. With this cast and creative team, the show is shaping up to be one of the must-watch dramas of the spring season.
