Fans of the hit Netflix series have new details about the upcoming season. A confirmed production start date and a new behind-thescenes code name have been announced for Wednesday Season 3. Jenna Ortega will return as the iconic goth heroine when filming begins in February 2026. The production will continue in Ireland and operate under the new working title “Briarcliff,” a special nod to the history of The Addams Family.

Production Timeline and Filming Dates

The long wait for new episodes is moving into its next phase. According to a detailed production listing, the official schedule is now set.

  • Preparation Started: July 28, 2025
  • Filming Starts: February 16, 2026
  • Filming Ends: May 22, 2026 (as currently listed)

The actor who plays Gomez Addams, Luis Guzmán, confirmed the February 2026 start date during a live fan Q&A session in November 2025. The listed three-month filming period is shorter than for past seasons, which took eight to ten months. This has led to speculation that the May date might mark a break or that filming could be split into blocks.

The Meaning Behind the “Briarcliff” Code Name

High-profile shows often use secret code names during production to avoid drawing crowds and spoilers. For its third season, Wednesday has adopted the working title “Briarcliff”.

This is a deep-cut reference for dedicated fans. Briarcliff Manor, New York, is the home of the Tee & Charles Addams Foundation. This organization manages the legacy of cartoonist Charles Addams, the original creator of The Addams Family characters. Showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have a history of honoring the source material, and this code name continues that tradition off-camera. Previously, the production company was listed as NIGHTSHADE & RAVEN S3 PRODUCTIONS LLC.

Filming Location and Returning to Ireland

The creepy and comic world of Nevermore Academy will once again be brought to life in Ireland. Season 3 will film in Dublin and Wicklow, continuing the production’s footprint there after moving from Romania for the second season.

Iconic Irish locations like the historic Powerscourt Estate have been used as the setting for Nevermore. The move to Ireland for Season 2 was well-received, and the production is set to utilize the region’s gothic architecture and landscapes again.

Cast Updates and New Additions

The main cast from Nevermore Academy is expected to return. This includes Jenna Ortega as Wednesday, Emma Myers as Enid, Hunter Doohan as Tyler, and Joy Sunday as Bianca. The Addams family members, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia), Luis Guzmán (Gomez), and Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley), are also set to return.

The major new casting news is the addition of Eva Green. The celebrated actor will join the show as Aunt Ophelia, the mysterious sister of Morticia Addams. Green is a longtime collaborator with Wednesday executive producer Tim Burton.

“I’m thrilled to join the woefully twisted world of Wednesday as Aunt Ophelia,” Green said. “This show is such a deliciously dark and witty world, I can’t wait to bring my own touch of cuckoo-ness to the Addams family.”

Showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar said Green’s “exhilarating, singular presence” makes her perfect for the role.

Story Hints and Season 3 Expectations

Netflix and the show’s creators are keeping specific plot details under wraps. However, the Season 2 finale set the stage for major developments. The ending hinted at a deeper exploration of the Addams family’s dark secrets and more changes coming to Nevermore Academy.

Jenna Ortega has hinted that the new season may focus more on the show’s female characters and relationships. The showrunners have stated their goal is to keep expanding the world of Nevermore while digging deeper into the characters.

Release Date Projection and Netflix’s Plans

Patience will be required for viewers eager to see the new season. Wednesday Season 3 was not included in Netflix’s official preview of its 2026 content slate, strongly suggesting a premiere in 2027.

Based on past production timelines, a likely target is Summer 2027. There was a nearly three-year gap between Season 1 (November 2022) and Season 2 (August/September 2025). Netflix typically announces exact release dates much closer to the premiere. For example, the Season 2 date was not revealed until April 2025. A similar timeline would place a Season 3 announcement in late 2026 or early 2027.

Despite the wait, Netflix confirms Wednesday remains a priority series. With other major franchises ending, Wednesday is positioned as a key part of Netflix’s future lineup. The showrunners have also confirmed that production on Season 3 takes full priority over any potential spinoff projects.
