Former NCT member Taeil is currently embroiled in a serious controversy following his recent departure from the group after being accused of sexual offenses. However, an older incident has resurfaced among fans, drawing renewed attention. This involves Taeil’s decision to follow fellow ex-NCT member Lucas on Instagram, who was at the time facing severe allegations of cheating, gaslighting, and manipulation.
Lucas’ Controversy in 2021
In 2021, Lucas was accused of multiple serious allegations, including cheating, manipulating, pressuring a fan to engage in unprotected sex, and gaslighting. These accusations led to Lucas being boycotted by both domestic and international fans, and ultimately, he went on an extended hiatus. He eventually left both NCT and its subunit, WayV.
During this turbulent time, Taeil’s decision to follow Lucas on Instagram raised many eyebrows. Fans and observers began to speculate whether this action was taken on Taeil’s own accord or if it was influenced by SM Entertainment. Adding to the intrigue, another NCT member, Haechan, chose to follow all NCT members except Lucas, further suggesting that Taeil’s decision might have been a personal one, sending a strong message to the fandom.

On August 28, 2024, SM Entertainment issued an official statement regarding Taeil, revealing that he has been charged in a criminal case involving sexual offenses. The statement mentioned that after careful consideration and fact-gathering, the company determined that Taeil could no longer remain a part of NCT.
“Following discussions with Taeil, he has decided to leave the group. The K-pop idol has been fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation, and further comments will be provided as the investigation progresses,” SM Entertainment stated.
The company also expressed deep apologies to the public for any distress caused by their artist’s actions.
Ongoing Investigation by Bangbae Police Station
The Bangbae Police Station has confirmed that an ongoing investigation is in progress involving Taeil. Lee In Chun, the director of the youth and women’s division at the station, mentioned that more details about the case are expected to be disclosed on August 29, 2024.
