Netflix’s new crime drama His and Hers brings a twisty murder mystery to life, but the show’s authentic Southern atmosphere is no studio creation. The six-episode series, starring Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal, was filmed entirely on location across the state of Georgia. The production transformed real towns and cityscapes into the show’s tense, visually striking world, swapping the novel’s English setting for the American South. From the quiet, historic streets of a mountain town to the bustling energy of Atlanta, here are the exact places where the thriller was shot.

Dahlonega: The Quaint Town at the Heart of the Mystery

The fictional murder in His & Hers rocks the small town of Dahlonega, and the show filmed extensively in the real Dahlonega to capture its unique character. Located in Lumpkin County in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Dahlonega provided the perfect backdrop for the story’s secrets. The town’s historic square and North Chestatee Street, a central boulevard, were key filming spots for many important sequences.

โ€œSo not only are we going to have it filmed in Dahlonega, knock on wood, but also Dahlonegaโ€™s name will be mentioned often throughout the TV show as well,โ€ said Sam McDuffie of the Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Visitors Bureau during early talks about the production.

The production also filmed on local backroads like Damascus Church Road to use the area’s natural, open landscapes. To manage filming, the crew worked closely with the community, placing signage and informing locals about temporary traffic changes. The Discover Dahlonega organization served as the official film liaison, coordinating the production’s activities throughout the scenic mountain town.

Metro Atlanta: From News Studios to City Streets

While Dahlonega represents the show’s small-town life, the story also moves to the city. Metro Atlanta, often called the “Hollywood of the South,” hosted a significant portion of the filming. The capital’s diverse locations, state-of-the-art studios, and skilled local crews have made it a top destination for film and TV productions.

Key scenes were shot at Eagle Rock Studios, a large production complex in Stone Mountain. The crew also traveled to the town of Conyers, located east of downtown Atlanta, to film additional sequences. The contrast between the bustling city of Atlanta and the quiet town of Dahlonega helps shape the narrative and the journey of the characters.

Why Georgia Was the Perfect Choice for the Show

The decision to film His & Hers across Georgia was intentional. Director and creator William Oldroyd stated that the show is “one of the few shows that was shot in Georgia for Georgia,” highlighting a commitment to authenticity. The actors agreed that filming on location added a genuine feel to the project.

โ€œThere is also a genuine feel when shooting on location in Atlanta and Dahlonega, which allows us to engage with the local community, like newscasters and police, to add authenticity to the show,โ€ Tessa Thompson told Netflix.

Jon Bernthal shared his enthusiasm for working in the state, saying, โ€œGeorgia is my favorite place to film, primarily due to the exceptional talent and enthusiasm of the crew. There’s a palpable sense of wonder and fun here.โ€

The Stars Behind the Small-Town Drama

The series is led by Tessa Thompson, who plays reclusive news anchor Anna Andrews, and Jon Bernthal as Detective Jack Harper. Thompson is also an executive producer on the project. The impressive supporting cast includes Pablo Schreiber as cameraperson Richard, Marin Ireland as Jack’s sister Zoe, and Crystal Fox as Anna’s mother, Alice.

The show is an adaptation of the 2020 novel of the same name by Alice Feeney. While the book is set in a British village named Blackdown, the television adaptation changed the setting to Dahlonega, Georgia. Principal photography for the limited series began on September 24, 2024, and continued for approximately three months, wrapping in December 2024.

All six episodes of His & Hers are available to stream globally on Netflix as of January 8, 2026.
