Every Game in Order and Their Rules

The games in Season 3 are a mix of psychological and physical challenges. Here is the complete list of games Arisu and the others faced, in order.

1. Sacred Fortunes

This was the first game of the season. Players had to draw 10 fortune slips, each with a numerical puzzle to solve within one minute. A wrong answer caused fire arrows to rain down on the players. The number of arrows was equal to the difference between the player’s answer and the correct number. Arisu discovered a hidden underground tunnel, which provided safe passage and ended the game.

2. Zombie Hunt

This was a team-based card game. Each player started with a stack of cards containing one of three special cards: Zombie, Shotgun, or Vaccine. Players chose opponents by touching them and then playing cards. A Zombie card could infect a human opponent, turning them to the zombie team. The Shotgun card could kill a zombie, while the Vaccine card could cure one. The winning team was whichever sideโ€”zombies or humansโ€”had more members at the end of the game. The losing team was killed.

3. Runaway Train

Players were placed in the last car of a driverless train. Their goal was to move forward through eight train cars to reach the engine and stop the train. The challenge was that four of the cars would fill with poisonous gas. Each player had a gas mask with five canisters of neutralizing agent. They had to decide within 30 seconds when to use their mask in each car. Masks could not be shared, and players could not move backward. The solution involved jumping to a parallel train that had already run its course.

4. Tokyo Bingo Tower

This game required players to overcome a fear of heights. They had to climb the Tokyo Tower and press buzzers installed at various points. Each buzzer corresponded to a number on a large bingo card. The players had to work together to form a complete bingo lineโ€”vertical, horizontal, or diagonal. A “Free” button at the top of the tower acted as the free space on the bingo card.

5. Kick the Can

In this game, players had to find one of 10 cans and return it to its original starting point before a timer ran out. Each can had a 60-second countdown that started the moment a player picked it up. If another player took the can, the timer would reset but with 5 seconds deducted from the original 60-second limit. If the timer reached zero or the can hit an obstacle, it would explode. The player who successfully returned a can to its spot would win.

6. Possible Futures

This was the final and most complex game. Players entered a maze of 25 rooms arranged in a grid. Each player started with 15 points on a wristband and needed to spend 1 point to move through each door. Some rooms deducted extra points upon entry. Players rolled a dice in each room to determine how many could advance through a door. If a player ran out of points, they were eliminated. On the walls of each room, AI-generated images showed a player’s “possible future,” which would supposedly become reality if they chose that path. The game ended when the remaining players found the exit.

The Final Showdown and Ending

The season culminates in a final confrontation that tests Arisu’s will to live. After the “Possible Futures” game, Arisu makes the ultimate sacrifice to ensure Usagi and the others can escape. However, this leads to a meeting with a mysterious figure known as the Watchman, played by Ken Watanabe.

The Watchman is not a god or the Joker, but a psychopompโ€”a guide for souls. He offers Arisu a simple choice between life and death. Arisu, determined to return to Usagi, chooses life. The season ends with Arisu and Usagi reunited in the real world, expecting a child and finally at peace, though the final scene hints that the phenomenon of the Borderland may not be over.
