Yash, the star of the KGF series, has officially confirmed his role as Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming adaptation of Ramayana. The film, which also features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi as Sita, has been one of the most talked-about projects in Indian cinema. Yash’s revelation has put an end to speculation that he had turned down the role of the legendary villain.

Reports had been circulating for months, hinting that Yash was undecided about playing Ravana. However, in an exclusive interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, the actor not only confirmed his involvement but also expressed his excitement about portraying one of the most iconic characters in Indian mythology.

Yash’s Take on Playing Ravana

In his interview, Yash revealed how the project came to him. He recalled a discussion with Namit Malhotra, CEO of DNEG and Prime Focus, where the idea of Ramayana first surfaced. Yash explained that he was impressed by Namit’s passion for the project and the alignment of their creative vision. According to Yash, Namit asked him if he would consider taking on the role of Ravana, and the actor quickly realized that it was the perfect part for him.

He explained that portraying Ravana is a unique opportunity for him as an actor. Yash stated, “For me, Ravana is the most exciting character to play in Ramayana. I wouldn’t have taken on the film if it wasn’t for this particular role. The character has so many shades and complexities, making it a challenging yet rewarding experience.” He further added that the way the character would be portrayed in this film would be different from the traditional depictions seen over the years, promising a fresh take on the legendary villain.

Yash went on to discuss the importance of putting the project ahead of personal stardom, saying, “This film is bigger than any individual actor. It’s about creating something that transcends stardom. The focus has to be on the story, the vision, and the collective effort to bring this massive project to life.”

The Vision Behind Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana

The pre-production work for Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is already in full swing, with fans eagerly awaiting more official details about the film. A leaked photo from the set, featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi in their costumes as Ram and Sita, went viral earlier this year, adding to the growing excitement.

According to Yash, the film’s ambitious vision is one of the key reasons he decided to join the project. He mentioned that the character of Ravana provides a vast scope for an actor to explore different emotional layers, which makes it a dream role for any performer. He emphasized how important it is to stay true to the character while offering something new to the audience.

Nitesh Tiwari, known for his critically acclaimed films such as Dangal and Chhichhore, is expected to bring a grand cinematic vision to the classic tale. While details remain scarce, sources suggest that the director aims to balance modern cinematic techniques with a deep respect for the original epic.

Release Date and Expectations

Although no official release date has been announced, sources close to the production suggest that the film is aiming for a 2025 release. The scale of the project, combined with the star-studded cast and crew, has led to high expectations from both fans and industry insiders. With the combination of Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and now Yash as Ravana, the film is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated releases in Indian cinema.

As for Yash, the actor seems fully committed to delivering a powerful performance as Ravana, the primary antagonist of the story. His involvement in the project as a co-producer also indicates his dedication to ensuring that the film stays true to its vision and meets audience expectations. Yash’s fans, who know him for his intense portrayals in films like KGF, are eagerly waiting to see his interpretation of Ravana on the big screen.
