The upcoming tvN drama ‘The Tyrant’s Chef‘, starring YoonA and Lee Chae Min, is set to begin filming on January 23, as reported by IZE on January 21. This marks the start of production for the drama, which is scheduled to air later in 2025.
The initial filming will focus on YoonA, the female lead. Following this, the production will continue according to its schedule. When questioned about the start of filming, the production team of ‘The Tyrant’s Chef’ stated, “We cannot confirm any details.”
Storyline and Setting
‘The Tyrant’s Chef’ is a fantasy survival romance spanning 500 years. The story centers around a French chef, played by YoonA, who travels through time and encounters a tyrant king, portrayed by Lee Chae Min. This king is known for being both a terrible ruler and a passionate foodie. The drama is currently being discussed for scheduling and is expected to broadcast in 2025.
This drama marks YoonA’s return to television after her role in the 2023 JTBC drama ‘King the Land’, where she starred alongside Lee Jun Ho. Fans have expressed great excitement for her return and are eager to see her performance in this new and unique role.
Casting Changes and Additions
Before filming began, ‘The Tyrant’s Chef’ faced a controversy involving its original male lead, Park Sung Hoon. He faced criticism after sharing an “explicit adult video cover” image on his social media. Despite an explanation from his agency, BH Entertainment, the backlash continued. Park Sung Hoon later apologized during a press interview for Netflix’s ‘Squid Game Season 2’, but the issue did not subside. On January 11, tvN officially announced Park Sung Hoon’s departure from the drama.
Lee Chae Min has now been confirmed to replace Park Sung Hoon as the tyrant king. Other cast members include Kang Han Na, who is reportedly in final talks to join the drama, and Choi Gwi Hwa, who will also be part of the series.
With production now underway after overcoming initial obstacles, ‘The Tyrant’s Chef’ is expected to be a notable drama of 2025.
