Even the most powerful superhero gets a little jealous sometimes. Antony Starr, who plays the terrifying Homelander on Prime Video’s The Boys, has a favorite storyline in the final season. But it is not his own.

The actor admits he likes another character’s journey better this year. During the show’s fifth and final season, Starr finds himself looking at Chace Crawford’s character, The Deep, with a sense of envy. The reason might surprise you.
Why Homelander Wishes He Had The Deep’s Arc
Starr, known for playing the show’s main villain, thinks The Deep gets all the fun moments. While Homelander remains the most dangerous force on the series, his story stays very serious and controlled. The Deep, on the other hand, gets to be weird, funny, and completely unpredictable.
Chace Crawford, who plays The Deep, recently shared what Starr told him on set. During an interview with ScreenRant, Crawford explained that every year, Starr tells him he has the best material.
“Even Antony, every year, is like, ‘Dude, you have some of the best s–t all the time! Every year, you’ve got some really good stuff, man.’ It’s fun.”
For Starr, watching The Deep go through his strange journey looks more entertaining than leading the Seven. Homelander’s arc demands intense focus and carries massive consequences for the whole world. The Deep just gets to cause chaos in a fish bowl.
What Makes The Deep’s Story So Different In Season 5
The Deep’s storyline in The Boys Season 5 stands out because it has no rules. His character moves between cringey humor and shocking moments without warning. One minute he is having a serious conversation, and the next he is doing something completely ridiculous.
Crawford described walking onto the set and seeing things like a cybertruck, strange periscopes, and weird posters on the wall. The production team keeps surprising him with funny details. Even the actor does not know what to expect next.

The Deep’s podcast scenes have also become a hit with fans. People find his awkward interviews and insane takes hilarious. Having Black Noir just stand there pushing buttons makes it even funnier. For Starr, who carries the weight of playing such a dark character, this freedom looks like a lot of fun.
The Final Season Brings Major Changes
The fifth season of The Boys is currently airing on Prime Video. New episodes drop every Wednesday. This season marks the end of the show, and the creators are not holding back.
Recent episodes have already killed off major characters. A-Train met his end in the first two episodes. The show also delivered a bloody Supernatural reunion when Jensen Ackles (Soldier Boy) and Jared Padalecki (Mr. Marathon) shared the screen. Padalecki’s character did not survive the meeting.
