NBC has officially decided not to continue The Hunting Party for a third season. The crime drama, which starred Melissa Roxburgh as former FBI profiler Rebecca “Bex” Henderson, ended its two-season run on the network. The decision came nearly a month after the show’s second season finale aired on May 7, 2026. While this sounds like the end, the show’s studio is actively looking for another platform to pick up the series, giving fans a small reason to hold onto hope.
NBC Canceled The Hunting Party After Two Seasons
The Hunting Party was the last scripted series from the 2025-26 broadcast season waiting for a renewal or cancellation decision. NBC executives took extra time to review how the show performed both on traditional television and through streaming. On June 1, 2026, reports confirmed that the network chose not to include the show in its 2026-27 TV lineup.
The show’s ratings played a big part in this outcome. Season two averaged 3.7 million viewers after a week of DVR playback, which was a 13 percent drop from its first season. NBC chairman Jeff Bader explained the network’s position clearly.
“We’re looking for places where we can grow the network, and that is a time period where we think we can do better. Nothing negative about Hunting Party, but for our linear schedule, we absolutely need to try and do a little bit better there.” – Jeff Bader, NBCUniversal’s President of Program Planning Strategy
The Studio Is Shopping for a New Home
Universal Television, the studio behind the series, plans to shop The Hunting Party to other networks and streaming services. This means the show could continue elsewhere even though NBC passed on it.
Netflix appears to be the most logical option. The streaming service already licenses the show in the United States, and season one became available on Netflix in February 2026. This move introduced the series to a whole new group of viewers who might want to see more episodes.
NBC also considered moving The Hunting Party to its own streaming platform, Peacock, as an original series. The network looked at both options carefully but decided against either path after analyzing the numbers.
What The Hunting Party Is About
The Hunting Party follows a small government team tasked with finding serial killers who escaped from a secret prison called “The Pit.” This prison never officially existed, and the world believed these criminals were already dead. The team includes Bex Henderson (Melissa Roxburgh), Jacob Hassani (Patrick Sabongui), Shane Florence (Josh McKenzie), and Jennifer (Sara Garcia).
The second season ended with many unanswered questions about The Pit’s mysteries. The show’s finale left fans wanting answers that they may never get unless another network saves the series.
The series received a critic score of 18 percent on Rotten Tomatoes but earned a much stronger audience score of 81 percent, showing that viewers connected with the show even if reviewers did not.
Cast and Creative Team Behind the Series
Melissa Roxburgh led the cast as Bex Henderson. Viewers know her best from the hit series Manifest. Other regular cast members included Nick Wechsler, Patrick Sabongui, Josh McKenzie, and Sara Garcia.
JJ Bailey created The Hunting Party and served as co-showrunner alongside Jake Coburn. Thor Freudenthal worked as an executive producer and director, while Michael Jones-Morales contributed as a writer and executive producer.

Universal Television has started reaching out to potential buyers. If a deal happens, The Hunting Party season three could become a streaming original on Netflix or find a home on another cable network. Nothing has been confirmed yet, and fans will need to wait for official announcements from the studio.
For now, all two seasons remain available to watch on Peacock. The first season is also streaming on Netflix in the United States. International viewers can find the show on various local platforms depending on their region.
