Courtney Stodden reignited a long-standing controversy by publicly calling out Dr. Drew Pinsky for a television segment from 2011. The former reality star, now 31, claims the physician exploited her during an on-air breast ultrasound when she was just 16 years old. The incident has since sparked a response from Dr. Drew’s wife, Susan Pinsky, who suggested Stodden should debate the issue on his show, a proposal Stodden firmly rejected.

The 2011 Television Appearance That Sparked Outrage

In 2011, Stodden became a tabloid fixture after marrying actor Doug Hutchison, who was 51 at the time. The controversial marriage brought intense media scrutiny, including speculation about whether the teenager had undergone plastic surgery.

Shortly after the wedding, Stodden appeared on Dr. Drew’s Lifechangers. During the episode, Dr. Drew performed an ultrasound on her breasts in front of a live studio audience to confirm they were real.

Stodden recently shared screenshots from that appearance on Instagram. In her caption, she wrote that she was forced to undergo the procedure “to see if my breasts were real or if I was lying about my breasts.”

Looking back, Stodden expressed deep sadness. She wrote that she sees “a little girl being exploited by grown men and used for views and mockery.”

Stodden’s Allegations of Exploitation

Stodden’s accusations go beyond the inappropriate nature of the segment. She claims the situation was more severe because of her legal status at the time. In her Instagram post, she stated, “I wasn’t an underage girl. I was a minor trapped in a situation that I wasn’t able to get out of legally. I had no rights at the time.”

She also alleged that the payment she received for the appearance went directly to her then-husband. She referred to Hutchison as her “abuser,” stating, “The money he paid me to be on the show went straight to my abuser.”

Stodden addressed Dr. Drew directly with pointed questions: “Dr. Drew, what made you think this was a good idea? As a doctor, did you think this was actually healthy for a little girl to experience? Did you even care?”

Stodden has been open about her past relationship with Hutchison. She filed for divorce in 2018, and it was finalized in 2020. Since then, she has become an advocate against child marriage, speaking about her experiences in interviews and documentaries.

Dr. Drew’s Wife Responds With a Controversial Suggestion

The situation escalated when Susan Pinsky, Dr. Drew’s wife, responded to a comment on one of his social media posts. A user had written, “Justice for @courtneystodden.” Susan replied, “I would love to talk to her on Ask Drew. If @courtneystodden wants to duke it out with Dr. Drew.” Dr. Drew reportedly “liked” his wife’s comment.

Stodden saw this response as a sign that Dr. Drew and his wife were missing the point. She shared a screenshot of the exchange and responded: “To me, that misses the point entirely. This isn’t entertainment. It isn’t a debate. It isn’t a ratings opportunity.”

Stodden reiterated her stance, saying the issue is not about rehashing past trauma for content but about accountability and protecting children from exploitation. She expressed gratitude to supporters, saying, “Thank you to everyone speaking up for me, supporting me, and recognizing how wrong this is.”

Medical Experts and Fans React

The resurfaced clip has led to strong reactions online, with many questioning the ethics of the original broadcast. One social media user wrote, “How did we ever live in a world where this was ok?” while another described the segment as “so disturbing” and “wildly inappropriate.” On Reddit, a widely shared comment read, “Everyone failed this girl. Every single fucking person.”

Medical professionals have also weighed in. Dr. Waqqas Jalil, a board-trained plastic surgeon, told Us Weekly that conducting a breast examination or imaging on a minor in a public, televised setting raises serious ethical concerns. He stated, “Using a medical tool on a young person in front of cameras, without those protections in place, isn’t medicineโ€”it’s spectacle.”

Background on the 2011 Segment

The original 2011 broadcast featured Dr. Drew and a panel discussing Stodden’s appearance. A plastic surgeon initially suggested they saw something round on the ultrasound, speculating it could be an implant. However, the doctor later concluded it was “normal tissue” and that Stodden did not have implants.

Stodden was 16 when she married Hutchison and was 17 when the episode aired. She claimed she had not undergone surgery, joking during the show, “Somebody must have drugged me up, put me under their surgery knife, because I’ve had no surgery done.”

In recent years, Stodden has continued to speak about the trauma she endured as a teenage bride and how she was failed by the adults around her. She has called out others in the entertainment industry for mistreating her during that period.
