The Defenders are reuniting for Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, but one familiar face will be missing from the lineup. Jessica Henwick, who played Colleen Wing across multiple Marvel Netflix series, has confirmed she will not return for the upcoming season. The actress revealed she had discussions with Marvel about reprising the role but ultimately chose to step away because her character’s story already reached a satisfying conclusion.

While Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Finn Jones (Danny Rand/Iron Fist), and Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) have all been spotted on set for the new season, Henwick will sit this one out. The decision comes down to creative choice rather than any conflict or lack of interest.

Henwick Turned Down Return to Protect Colleen Wing’s Ending

Speaking to Inverse, Jessica Henwick opened up about why she decided not to join Daredevil: Born Again Season 3. The actress explained that Colleen Wing’s journey in the Netflix Marvel universe ended on a positive note, and she wants to keep it that way.

“For me, her story ended with her going off into the sunset. She has the Iron Fist. She’s got Misty by her side. Daughters of the Dragon is happening. She ended on a really great note,” Henwick told Inverse.

The character’s arc saw Colleen Wing inherit the Iron Fist mantle from Danny Rand and team up with Misty Knight, setting up the Daughters of the Dragon storyline. Henwick feels that bringing Colleen back would require undoing that happy ending.

“I’m just not interested in bringing her back unless it’s worth sort of unpicking that happiness, because obviously she can’t be happy on a TV series. If she’s back, something’s gone wrong,” she added.

Henwick made it clear she remains deeply attached to the character and would “absolutely love” to return someday, but only if the story justifies it. She also noted that the creative team behind the Disney+ series agreed with her perspective, saying they did not want to bring Colleen back just for a small role where she would be “stood in the back of the shot”.

The Defenders Reunion Moves Forward Without Colleen Wing

While Henwick will not be part of Season 3, the other core Defenders are coming back. Set photos from a Brooklyn courthouse confirmed that Mike Colter, Finn Jones, and Krysten Ritter have all been filming scenes together. This marks the first time the three actors have shared the screen since The Defenders miniseries in 2017.

Daredevil: Born Again has been slowly bringing the Netflix Marvel characters into official MCU canon. Season 2 already brought back Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, and Season 3 will add Danny Rand to the mix.

Daredevil: Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane explained why these street-level characters tend to stay in their own corner of the MCU. “The joke we make is, ‘Oh, those guys are uptown – we’re downtown!’” Scardapane said. “We kind of have a pocket that’s in this world of Hell’s Kitchen, in this world of New York. I always think that maybe these characters take little vacations into the larger world but the story that we’re focusing on is really granular”.

The returning cast for Season 3 also includes Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Wilson Bethel as Bullseye, and Elodie Yung as Elektra Natchios.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 Release Window and Production Status

Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 does not have an official release date yet, but reports indicate it will arrive in March 2027 on Disney+. This follows the release pattern of the first two seasons, both of which premiered in March.

Production on Season 3 has already wrapped. Principal photography concluded in July 2026, with showrunner Dario Scardapane confirming that filming was complete. The season was officially renewed in September 2025, and filming began in early 2026.

The season is expected to feature a time jump and will reportedly pick up with Matt Murdock in prison while the Defenders protect New York in his absence.

For fans hoping to see Colleen Wing return to the MCU, Henwick has left the door open. “I would absolutely love to come back, but it would just really have to be the right story,” she said. Until that right story comes along, Colleen Wing’s sunset ending remains intact.
