KATSEYE has achieved two major career milestones with their latest single “Animal.” The global girl group entered the top 10 of the Billboard Global 200 for the first time and secured their highest debut on the Hot 100 chart. The song arrived on July 24 as the lead single from their upcoming EP WILD, set for release on August 14. The track was written by Ed Sheeran, Johnny McDaid, and producers Omer Fedi and Blake Slatkin.

The latest Billboard charts dated August 8 show “Animal” debuting at No. 10 on the Global 200. This marks the group’s first song ever to break into the top 10 of that chart. The single also landed at No. 12 on the Global Excluding U.S. chart, making it their highest-ranking song on that list as well.

Animal Debuts at No. 24 on Billboard Hot 100

On the Billboard Hot 100, “Animal” entered at No. 24. This surpasses their previous debut high of No. 28 set by “PINKY UP” in April. The group has now placed five consecutive songs on the Hot 100: “Gnarly,” “Gabriela,” “Internet Girl,” “PINKY UP,” and now “Animal”. Including their collaboration track “Iconic By Mistake” with LE SSERAFIM and ILLIT, this marks their sixth overall entry on the chart.

The previous record for KATSEYE’s highest-ranking Hot 100 song belongs to “Gabriela,” which peaked at No. 21 in January. While “Animal” debuted at No. 24, it has already outperformed all their previous debut positions.

Strong Streaming Numbers Drive Global Success

“Animal” pulled in 29.8 million global streams in its first week of release, along with 3,000 sales worldwide. On Spotify, the song reached No. 9 on the Weekly Top Songs global chart and No. 8 in the United States. It also climbed to No. 5 on the Daily Top Songs Global chart dated August 2.

On its first day of release, “Animal” gathered 3.346 million streams on Spotify, debuting at No. 9 on the Daily Global Songs chart. This became the biggest first-day Spotify debut of KATSEYE’s career. The song entered streaming charts in 47 countries, including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

The group also saw a rise on the Billboard Artist 100, jumping to No. 17 in their 61st week on the chart.

Ed Sheeran Co-Writes Another Global Hit

Ed Sheeran co-wrote “Animal” alongside Johnny McDaid and producers Omer Fedi and Blake Slatkin. This places Sheeran as a co-writer on two songs in the Global 200 top 10 this week, with Shakira and Burna Boy’s “Dai Dai” holding the No. 1 spot. Sheeran previously co-wrote BTS’s “Permission to Dance,” which topped the Global 200 in 2021.

During a livestream on the day of the song’s release, KATSEYE member Lara teased the collaboration, saying, “A very special person wrote it, which is also really cool”. The involvement of the British pop star added extra attention to the release.

Demi Moore Appears in Music Video

The music video for “Animal” features a cameo from actress Demi Moore. Billboard described the video as Moore helping KATSEYE “unlock their inner ‘Animal’”. The visual storytelling and choreography received positive reactions from viewers.

KATSEYE’s Consistent Chart Growth

KATSEYE first entered the Hot 100 with “Gnarly” in May 2025. Since then, the group has placed every single on the chart, with each release improving their debut position. Their collaboration “Iconic By Mistake” with LE SSERAFIM and ILLIT fell to No. 76 this week but extended its chart run to seven consecutive weeks.

The group previously won three awards at the 2026 American Music Awards, including New Artist of the Year, and received two Grammy nominations. Their upcoming EP WILD follows their 2025 EP BEAUTIFUL CHAOS, which debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200.

The new single “Animal” is described as a pop track that explores primal instincts and wildness through dynamic beats and upbeat rhythms. Unlike previous songs that focused on electronic sounds and bold performances, this track puts more weight on the members’ vocal tones and matured singing abilities.
