Paramount+’s Landman has become one of the streaming platform’s biggest success stories since its debut in November 2024. The oil industry drama, created by Taylor Sheridan, pulled in massive viewership numbers and earned strong reviews across two seasons. But fans waiting for Season 3 will have to be patient. The show will not follow its usual November release pattern this year.
Production has been pushed back multiple times. The original plan called for filming to start in May 2026, then moved to August, and now stands at September. This shift means the third season will not arrive until 2027 at the earliest. The delay stems from a combination of factors, including Taylor Sheridan’s packed production schedule, cast availability, and recent salary negotiations.
Production Timeline Keeps Shifting
The filming schedule for Landman Season 3 has moved several times over the past year. Sam Elliott, who plays T.L. Norris, said in late 2025 that cameras were expected to roll around April or May 2026. Billy Bob Thornton later told a podcast that production would start at the end of August. Then James Jordan, who plays Dale Bradley, confirmed at the Lioness premiere on July 29 that filming will now begin in September.
Jordan shared the update exclusively with Us Weekly. He said production will run through the first quarter of 2027. The actor also confirmed that Stephen Kay will return as director for the new season. Kay directed episodes in the first two seasons and is expected to helm additional episodes for Season 3.
“We start that sometime in September and we’ll shoot that through the first quarter of next year. Then we should have it out … I don’t know when. It’s up to the powers that be.”
The production delay marks a significant change from the show’s previous release pattern. Season 1 premiered on November 17, 2024, and Season 2 followed on November 16, 2025. That annual rhythm will not continue this year.
Taylor Sheridan’s Growing TV Empire Creates a Traffic Jam
The primary reason for the delay traces back to Sheridan’s expanding list of television projects. The creator behind Yellowstone, 1883, and Mayor of Kingstown now oversees multiple shows simultaneously. His slate includes Special Ops: Lioness, The Madison, Tulsa King, Marshals, Dutton Ranch, and Frisco King. Managing all these productions requires coordinating the same pool of actors, writers, and crew members across different sets.
James Jordan himself serves as a clear example of the scheduling challenges. He is currently shooting Special Ops: Lioness with about six weeks of filming left, while also having worked on The Madison. Jordan’s career has been closely tied to Sheridan’s universe, with roles in Wind River, Yellowstone, 1883, and Mayor of Kingstown. When one actor is needed on multiple productions, delays become unavoidable.
The overlap between projects has created what some call a “Sheridan traffic jam”. With so many shows in production, Landman had to wait its turn. The September start date allows the cast and crew to finish their commitments on other projects before reuniting in Fort Worth, Texas, where much of the series has been filmed.
Cast Salary Negotiations Also Played a Role
The production delay came shortly after the show’s cast secured significant pay raises. According to Deadline, the entire original cast except Billy Bob Thornton successfully negotiated paycheck increases in June 2026. Thornton has a separate three-year deal with standard year-to-year increases and would need to negotiate a new contract if the show is renewed for a fourth season.
Demi Moore landed a new deal that brings her up to parity with Thornton, earning between $740,000 and $770,000 per episode. Moore had a shorter contract than the usual two-year options, and the negotiation resulted in a significant upgrade.
Ali Larter renegotiated her existing long-term contract and more than doubled her paycheck. She will now receive $350,000 per episode, in addition to securing a talent deal. Larter plays Angela, Tommy’s ex-wife, on the show.
Jacob Lofland and Michelle Randolph, who play Thornton and Larter’s children on the series, are receiving raises in the range of $130,000 to $180,000 per episode. The rest of the cast, including Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, and James Jordan, received sizable bumps, though less than Lofland and Randolph.
These negotiations required time and coordination, adding another layer of complexity to the production schedule.
What to Expect From Season 3
Despite the delay, Jordan assured fans that the new season will deliver the same quality as the first two. He confirmed that Season 3 will again feature 10 episodes. Sheridan is actively writing the scripts, and Jordan has already received his copy.
“Taylor is writing as we speak. It’s going to be 10 crazy, wonderful, funny and wild episodes — just like season 1 and season 2 have been. Billy Bob [Thornton] and everybody, we’re all ready to get back to work.”
Jordan described the scripts as closely guarded secrets, saying he will guard his copy “with my life”. He also hinted at the show’s direction, noting that the upcoming season will follow the events of the Season 2 finale.
The Season 2 finale saw Tommy Norris fired from M-Tex before deciding to establish his own company. He began recruiting key members from M-Tex and brought his father into the new venture. Tommy named Cooper president, Nate treasurer, and Rebecca COO and Chief Counsel. This new direction sets up a different path for the character in Season 3.
The main cast is expected to return. Billy Bob Thornton will reprise his role as Tommy Norris, alongside Andy Garcia, Sam Elliott, Colm Feore, and Kayla Wallace. Demi Moore, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, and Michelle Randolph are also set to return.

Paramount+ has not announced an official premiere date for Season 3. With filming now scheduled to run from September 2026 through the first quarter of 2027, the new episodes are unlikely to arrive until mid-to-late 2027. Post-production work will follow the filming schedule, adding more time before the season is ready for release.
The first two seasons of Landman are available to stream on Paramount+. Season 3 will also premiere on the platform once production is completed.
