BLACKPINK marked their 10th debut anniversary on August 8, 2026, but what should have been a global celebration turned into a major controversy. YG Entertainment faced intense backlash from fans after announcing a last-minute fan meeting that only allowed 40 people to attend. The frustration grew so strong that one fan reportedly attacked the YG building with a golf club.

The four members — Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa — came together for a Weverse live broadcast to address the situation and apologize to BLINKs. Jisoo took the lead in apologizing, while the other members faced criticism for their behavior during the stream.

YG Announces 40-Person Fan Meeting Just Two Days Before Anniversary

The trouble started when YG Entertainment finally revealed plans for the 10th anniversary on August 6, only two days before the actual date. The agency announced a “Meet & Greet” event at the National Museum of Korea in Seoul. But the details made fans angry.

Only 40 randomly selected fans from the official paid fanclub could attend. To apply, fans needed to have a paid Weverse membership before July 31. Many BLINKs had not renewed their memberships because BLACKPINK had not been active on the platform for over a year. The application window was also very short, lasting only nine hours on August 6.

The initial announcement also did not guarantee that all four members would be present. It said only “some members” whose schedules allowed would attend. This created even more anger among fans who had been waiting years for a full-group event.

Fan Anger Reaches Boiling Point With Golf Club Attack

The frustration among BLINKs reached a dangerous level on August 6. A woman believed to be a BLACKPINK fan was arrested in Seoul’s Mapo District after trying to smash the glass door of YG Entertainment‘s headquarters with a golf club.

Video of the incident spread quickly on social media. It showed the unidentified woman swinging the club at the building’s entrance multiple times. Police took her in for questioning about the incident and her motives.

This extreme action showed just how upset fans had become. Many BLINKs felt that YG Entertainment was not treating the group’s 10th anniversary with the respect it deserved.

Jisoo Apologizes Twice — Once in Writing, Once on Live Broadcast

Jisoo became the first member to speak up about the controversy. Early on August 8, she posted a long apology on Weverse. She wrote that seeing BLINKs upset made her heart feel heavy. She also said she had never forgotten that fans are the reason BLACKPINK shines so bright.

“I always wanted to exist to be someone who only shows you my good side and gives you happiness in hard moments… but seeing so many BLINKs feeling upset makes my heart feel heavy”.

Later that day, all four members came together for a Weverse live broadcast. Jisoo apologized again during the stream.

“We really wanted to meet a lot of fans, and we know how important our 10th anniversary is. But I think there were some issues with our communication, and we’re very sorry about that”.

She explained that the group had prepared a small event but truly wanted to see more people. She asked fans to understand their intentions.

Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa Face Criticism for Their Attitude

While Jisoo received praise for her honest apology, the other three members faced a different reaction. Some viewers felt that Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa seemed less interested during the live broadcast.

The stream also started with a technical problem. The screen appeared rotated 90 degrees, and the members had to restart the broadcast. Jennie joked about feeling awkward doing live broadcasts even after 10 years. Rosé admitted that live streams seem to get harder over time.

But some fans did not find these comments funny. They questioned whether the three members were genuinely excited to celebrate the anniversary with BLINKs. The contrast with Jisoo’s serious apology made the situation worse for some viewers.

Rosé’s Sweet Surprise With Cake and Flowers

Despite the criticism, there was a touching moment during the live broadcast. Rosé suddenly stood up and walked away, leaving the other members looking surprised. She returned with a cute anniversary cake that the four members placed on the table together.

But Rosé was not done. She left again and came back with a bouquet of flowers for Jisoo. She then brought another bouquet for Lisa and one for Jennie. The sweet gesture made the three members smile and turned the stream into a warmer celebration.

This moment reminded fans of the bond between the members, even during a difficult time.

Lisa Shows Support for Members on Social Media

After the live broadcast and the in-person event, Lisa posted a message on Instagram supporting her fellow members. She wrote that their support had helped her keep going all these years.

“Regardless of what happens, I will always stand by the members. I hope you know that I will always be behind you”.

She described their journey as a rollercoaster with many ups and downs. But she ended her message with love for BLACKPINK and BLINKs.

Jisoo Seen Crying After the Event

After the in-person Meet & Greet ended, Jisoo was seen crying inside her van. Fans who had gathered outside the museum watched as she waved to them while wiping away tears.

Many fans pointed out that Jisoo does not usually cry easily. Seeing her emotional state made BLINKs feel sorry for her. Some fans said she was taking responsibility for problems caused by the company.

YG Confirms All Four Members Will Attend After Backlash

After facing massive criticism, YG Entertainment finally confirmed that all four members would attend the August 8 event. The agency told Korea JoongAng Daily that they had checked with each member’s individual label.

This confirmation helped calm some of the anger. But many fans still felt that the event was too small and too rushed for such an important milestone.

Fans Compare 10th Anniversary to Previous Celebrations

Some BLINKs compared this year’s celebration to BLACKPINK’s 5th anniversary in 2021. Back then, YG launched the “4+1 Project,” which included the theatrical release of “Blackpink The Movie” in more than 100 countries.

For the 10th anniversary, YG announced merchandise collections, digital badges, and fan letter events. But many fans felt this was not enough.

“We don’t want merch, we want Blackpink” became one of the most shared phrases among frustrated fans.

A fan organization called Blackpink Blink Union wrote an open letter to YG. They said the anniversary “deserves to be celebrated in a meaningful way” and asked for new music, special performances, and projects that celebrate the group’s decade together.

BLACKPINK’s Journey to 10 Years

BLACKPINK debuted on August 8, 2016, with the album Square One. The group became one of the most successful girl groups in the world with hit songs like “Whistle,” “Playing with Fire,” “Ddu Du Ddu Du,” “Kill This Love,” “How You Like That,” and “Pink Venom”.

In 2023, the members’ contracts with YG ended. None of the members renewed their individual contracts. Jennie started her own agency called OA Entertainment. Rosé signed with The Black Label. Lisa and Jisoo also founded their own agencies, Lloud and Blissoo. However, the group renewed their contract with YG for group activities in 2024.

The 10th anniversary should have been a time to celebrate this incredible journey. Instead, it became a moment of disappointment and frustration for many fans who felt left out.
