The trailer for Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups was unveiled at a grand event in Bengaluru on August 8, drawing the film’s entire cast and crew together. Nayanthara, who rarely attends promotional events, made a special appearance at the launch and delivered a speech that quickly became the talk of the town. She opened up about her experience working with Yash and revealed the enormous personal cost behind the making of the film.
Nayanthara, fondly referring to Yash as “Rocky Bhai,” spoke about his four-and-a-half-year journey with Toxic and did not hold back in her praise. She said she has never seen an actor work as hard as Yash in her entire career.
“This man gave four and a half years of his life. He sacrificed his time with his family, his kids; he was just bothered about work. I have never seen an actor take care of the director the way he did. I have so much love and respect for the actor, producer, and human being he is.”
Nayanthara Breaks Her Rule for ‘Toxic’ Trailer Launch
Nayanthara, known as the “Lady Superstar” of South Indian cinema, is not someone who frequently appears at film promotions. She addressed this directly during her speech at the Bengaluru event, clarifying that her absence from such events is not due to a lack of interest.
“It’s not that I don’t want to attend promotional events; it’s just that I am not very good at it. I stay away from it, but this was special. Yash just made a call, and it was enough for me to attend the event,” Nayanthara said.
The actress also recalled her first meeting with Yash, mentioning that his on-screen larger-than-life persona is exactly how he is in real life. “The first time I met Yash… I have worked with a lot of superstars and actors; everyone is big and cool. With Yash, when I met him for the first time, the larger-than-life image he has is the same in person,” she said.
Yash Praises Nayanthara as the ‘Lady Superstar’ and ‘Most Badass Sister’
Yash returned the compliments with equal warmth. He praised Nayanthara for her professionalism and commitment, revealing that her scenes had to be shot quickly due to date constraints. Despite the pressure, he said she delivered her best performance.
“The situation was such that when Nayanthara came onboard this film, there was some issue with the dates. The shoot had to be done very quickly. We didn’t have much time. We had to push through. She completed the film shoot despite her date issues. She gave her best,” Yash said.
Yash also called Nayanthara the “Lady Superstar” and said she was a perfect fit for her role in Toxic. He hinted that she plays his sister in the film and described her look as striking. “She looks badass in Toxic! She looks like the most badass sister anyone can have! She nailed the part,” he said.
Nayanthara Initially Said No to ‘Toxic’
In a surprising confession, Nayanthara revealed that she was not immediately keen on joining the project. She admitted that she is usually cautious about signing films with a large ensemble cast.
“When Geetu Mohandas called me for the film, I wasn’t so sure because there are a lot of actors in the film, and I’m usually a little careful or maybe a little apprehensive about choosing a film where there are a lot of actors,” she said.
Nayanthara initially told the director she did not want to do the film. However, Geetu Mohandas persisted and asked her to listen to the narration. “From that moment, I wondered who is this director that we have not seen. You have seen the trailer, but the film is going to blow your mind,” Nayanthara said.
A Long History with Director Geetu Mohandas
Nayanthara also shared a personal connection with the film’s director, Geetu Mohandas. She revealed that they had acted together in a film about 20 years ago. This long-standing relationship played a role in her decision to eventually come on board.
“Geetu and I have had a long and beautiful journey. We have acted in a film together, maybe 20 years ago. That was a different Geetu,” she said. She praised the director for the way she handled the cast and crew during the filming process.
Kiara Advani and the Cast Shine at the Event
The trailer launch was also a significant moment for Kiara Advani, who plays a pivotal role in the film. She described Toxic as a turning point in her career, suggesting that her life as an actor would be divided into before and after the film.
Nayanthara agreed with Kiara’s assessment and praised her co-star’s performance. “Kiara Advani, I think this is one of the best films you’ve done in your entire career. Like you said, there’s a Kiara before Toxic, and there’s going to be a Kiara after Toxic,” Nayanthara said.
