Sivakarthikeyan’s 27th film, tentatively titled SK27, has started production in Chennai. A new report says the action entertainer will include a remix of the classic Rajinikanth song “Naan Polladhavan” from the 1980 film Polladhavan.
The project was officially launched on September 25, 2026, with a pooja ceremony in Chennai. Director Ramkumar Balakrishnan, who won National Awards for his debut film Parking, is writing and directing the film. Sathya Jyothi Films is producing the project. The film marks the first collaboration between Sivakarthikeyan and Ramkumar Balakrishnan.
The reported remix song is the main talking point. According to a Valai Pechu report, the team plans to recreate “Naan Polladhavan” with Sivakarthikeyan in the lead. The report says the song will be shot over six days and will feature actress Kayadu Lohar along with around 200 junior artists. Sai Abhyankkar, the film’s music composer, is reportedly handling the remix. The original song was composed by M. S. Viswanathan with lyrics by Kannadasan and sung by S. P. Balasubrahmanyam for the 1980 film starring Rajinikanth.
No official announcement about the remix has come from the production house or the director. The information comes from a media report, and fans should wait for confirmation from the makers.
Film Production Begins in Chennai
Principal photography for SK27 began on September 25, 2026. The first schedule is expected to run for 10 to 15 days in Chennai. The production house shared a video from the inaugural ceremony on social media. The post said, “A powerful start to a promising story. #SK27 begins with a pooja. On floors today.”
Sivakarthikeyan is balancing work on two projects at the same time. He is also filming for Seyon, an action drama directed by Sivakumar Murugesan. Seyon is produced by Kamal Haasan and R. Mahendran under Raaj Kamal Films International in association with Turmeric Media. That film is expected to release during Pongal 2027.
The SK27 team has not announced a release date yet. Trade tracking websites list the film for a possible 2027 release, but no official date has been confirmed by the production house.
Cast and Crew Details
Sivakarthikeyan leads the cast as the main hero. Kayadu Lohar plays the female lead. This is the first time Sivakarthikeyan and Kayadu Lohar are working together. Kayadu Lohar has appeared in the films Dragon and Immortal.
The supporting cast includes Sudhakar Jeyaraman, known for his work with the comedy group Parithabangal, and George Maryan. Reports also mention VTV Ganesh, Babloo Prithiveeraj, and Cell Murugan as part of the film.
The technical crew brings together experienced professionals. Om Prakash is the cinematographer. He has worked on several Tamil films. Kalaivanan R. is the editor. He previously edited Sivakarthikeyan’s film Amaran. Sai Abhyankkar is composing the music. He is a young composer who has gained attention for his work in Tamil cinema. Rajesh is the production designer, Praveen Raja is the costume designer, and Steven Kumar is the stunt master.

SK27 was earlier planned as a collaboration between Sivakarthikeyan and director Venkat Prabhu. That project was a science fiction film. It has now been shelved. Venkat Prabhu spoke about the situation in late September 2026. He said he could not blame Sivakarthikeyan for the project not moving forward. Both of them shared messages online to clear the air after rumors of a rift appeared in the media. Sivakarthikeyan’s 27th film then moved to Ramkumar Balakrishnan.
Global Release Information
SK27 is a Tamil-language film. It will release in theaters first. The production house has not shared an official release date. Trade websites list a possible 2027 release window. The film is expected to release in India and in international markets where Tamil films are shown, including the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and Gulf countries. Streaming details are not available yet. After its theatrical run, the film is expected to arrive on a major streaming platform. An official announcement about the digital release will come later.
