BLACKPINK marked their 10th debut anniversary on August 8, 2026, but what was supposed to be a joyous celebration turned into an emotional and controversial event. Jisoo was seen crying in her vehicle after the fan meeting, while Rosé appeared visibly emotional and stepped up to comfort her fellow members. The anniversary activities faced strong backlash from BLINKs over poor planning and limited access, leading to multiple apologies from the group.
Jisoo Spotted Crying in Vehicle After Anniversary Event
The emotional moment came on Saturday, August 8, after Jisoo, Lisa, Jennie, and Rosé gathered for their meet-and-greet in Seoul to mark the major milestone. As the “Eyes Closed” singer left the event, fans gathered to send her off, handing her cards and small gifts as gestures of love and support.
A video shared by a fan account shows the 31-year-old singer inside a vehicle, looking visibly emotional. She could be seen with teary eyes as she waved and smiled at fans while collecting cards and pink gifts. At one point, she wiped away tears as the overwhelming love from supporters became too much.
Fans were particularly shocked because Jisoo is known as a member who rarely cries in public. She has often asked other members “Why are you crying?” when they shed tears at concerts, making her own tears especially surprising to BLINKs.
Rosé Steps Up With Flowers and Cake to Lift Spirits
While Jisoo was overcome with emotion, Rosé played a key role in trying to keep the atmosphere positive. During the Weverse livestream on the occasion, Rosé suddenly stood up and walked out of frame, leaving Jisoo, Jennie, and Lisa looking visibly surprised. She returned with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, which she lovingly handed to Jisoo.
Rosé also brought out a cake topped with a “10” candle and handed each member a bouquet, prompting Jennie to call her “the romanticist of our team”. The flowers and cake were reportedly purchased by Rosé herself, as the agency had not prepared any. Lisa admitted, “I didn’t prepare anything,” to which Rosé sweetly replied, “You being here is enough” and gave her a kiss.
Fans expressed anger that the members had to provide their own celebration items. Many criticised YG Entertainment for lack of effort, pointing out that even flowers and cake had to be arranged by the artists themselves.
Rosé Shares Emotional Message About 10-Year Journey
Rosé also took to social media to reflect on the decade with her group members. She wrote:
“Ten years with these girls. I cannot comprehend how much these past ten years have meant for me. From 19 to 29, I have learnt and grown so much amongst these girls along with the love all you BLINKs have shown me.”
Jennie also shared an emotional message, saying it was hard to believe ten years had passed and expressing gratitude for the fans who believed in her. Lisa posted on Instagram, saying that with fans’ support she was able to keep going and that she would always stand by her members.
Fans Express Disappointment Over Event Planning
The emotional scenes came after days of growing frustration among BLINKs. The anniversary event was announced just two days before the milestone, with applications open for only about nine hours. Only 40 fans were randomly selected from paid Weverse members to attend the meet-and-greet at the National Museum of Korea in Seoul.
This was a significant reduction compared to previous years. For their eighth anniversary in 2024, BLACKPINK met 88 fans. The limited capacity and last-minute announcement sparked outrage across fan communities.
Adding to the frustration, initial announcements suggested that only “some members” would attend depending on their schedules. This led to speculation that Rosé and Lisa might not be present. Lisa was even quoted as saying she “didn’t even know there was a 10th anniversary event,” which further angered fans. The agency later confirmed all four members would attend, but the damage was already done.
Jisoo Apologises Twice to Disappointed Fans
Jisoo took the lead in addressing the controversy. She first posted a long message on Weverse at midnight on August 8, apologising to fans. She wrote:
“Thank you for celebrating our 10th anniversary, and I’m sorry once again for causing you such disappointment.”
She also expressed gratitude to fans for making BLACKPINK shine and asked them to leave “a little room” for her sincerity despite their disappointment.
During the Weverse livestream on the anniversary day, Jisoo apologised again. She said:
“We really wanted to meet a lot of fans, and we know how important our 10th anniversary is. But I think there were some issues with our communication, and we’re very sorry about that.”
Jisoo acknowledged that the members were disappointed they could not meet more fans on such a meaningful occasion. She added that she had always wanted to show her good side to fans and make them happy, but seeing so many BLINKs upset made her heart feel heavy.
Jisoo Explains Her Tears and Asks Fans Not to Overthink
After fans saw her crying in the vehicle, speculation spread quickly online. Some wondered if her tears were connected to BLACKPINK’s future group activities or contract situations. Jisoo addressed this directly on August 9 through Weverse.
She explained that the members had difficulty expressing everything because of boundaries around what they could and could not say. She wrote:
“Because the boundaries of what we want to say, what we can say, what we are allowed to say, and what we don’t necessarily need to say are difficult, I think everyone had a hard time bringing up words yesterday.”
Jisoo then made her feelings clear:
“I hope you don’t read too many meanings into my tears. I just want to gather these various emotions and sum them up as the overwhelming feeling of us spending 10 years together.”
She also joked about the situation, saying:
“I’m human too. I wasn’t a robot.”
Jisoo pointed out that just because she cried publicly for the first time, it did not mean she was more sincere or more upset than other times. She said:
“Just because I didn’t cry during the tour doesn’t mean I wasn’t moved.”
She expressed hope that negative stories and endless speculation would stop. She ended her message with love for the fans:
“Working for 10 years, wow, liking each other for 10 years, wow, we must be amazing people! Thank you.”
Short Event and Low-Value Gifts Add to Fan Anger
The actual fan meeting on August 8 lasted only about 30 minutes, with the livestream running for just 10 minutes. Fans felt this was far too short for such an important milestone. The venue setup was also criticised, with only a 10th-anniversary visual on the wall and no balloons or decorations.
Adding to the disappointment, the “reverse support” gifts given to attending fans were reportedly worth only about 6,900 Korean won (approximately $5 USD) and included simple pastries and previously distributed photo cards. Many fans called this lack of effort “insincere”.
Lisa Shows Support for Her Members
Lisa also posted on Instagram following the event, expressing her support for her fellow members. She wrote that with fans’ support she was able to keep going and that she would always stand by her members. She said:
“No matter what, I will always be by the members’ side. I hope you know that I will always stand behind you.”
She ended her message with love for BLACKPINK and BLINKs.
