Tracker returned for its fourth season on CBS with a premiere that took Colter Shaw from a simple missing person search to a dangerous criminal operation at the Port of Los Angeles. The episode, titled “Safe Harbor,” aired on October 4, 2026, and delivered one of the show’s darkest cases yet.
Justin Hartley leads the CBS action-crime procedural as Colter Shaw, a reward seeker who travels the country helping private citizens find missing people. The Season 4 premiere introduced a case that began with a teenager’s plea and ended with a rescue operation involving dozens of lives.
A Teenager’s Lie Starts the Search
The episode opened with Charlie Wooledge, a 15-year-old boy, reaching out to Colter through Reddit. Charlie claimed his brother was missing, but Colter quickly figured out the truth: Charlie’s father, Sean Wooledge (played by Derek Phillips), had vanished, and Charlie lied because he feared that child services would separate him and his younger brother, Hank.
Charlie’s decision to bend the truth made him a more compelling client than the usual reward-driven case. He had thought through the risks and found someone who might actually listen. Colter saw past the lie without dismissing the boy who told it.
The search led Colter to Longshore Welding and Steel, where a man named Bern admitted he helped Sean get a gun to protect his girlfriend, Stephanie Rodriguez. Stephanie worked as a supervisor at the Port of Los Angeles, and Sean knew she was in danger.
From Missing Father to Human Trafficking Ring
Colter’s investigation took a sharp turn when he found Sean’s car outside a house and discovered a dead body inside. The victim was Brent Russo, a gate clerk at the port and Stephanie’s ex-boyfriend. While Detective Bill Kao believed Sean killed Brent, Colter pieced together a different story: someone else killed Brent and kidnapped both Sean and Stephanie.
Surveillance footage showed Sean and Stephanie being forced into a vehicle registered to Cabrillo Transport at the port. Colter followed the lead and found a bloody, tied-up Sean. But Stephanie was gone. Sean explained that Brent had been pressuring Stephanie to make a shipping container disappear. She refused.
Reenie Greene (played by Fiona Rene) dug into Brent’s background and found his ties to a Russian organized crime group led by a man named Archer Litvak, a human trafficker who used shipping containers to move people. The container at the port was filled with victims being smuggled through Los Angeles.
Colter’s Showdown With Archer Litvak
The episode’s final act featured a confrontation between Colter and Archer Litvak (played by Ilia Volok). Colter killed Archer, rescued Stephanie, and freed many people trapped inside the shipping containers. The rescue at the port became the emotional center of the premiere, with Colter helping victims return to their families.
Sean reunited with Charlie and Hank at the end of the episode. Colter made a deal with Charlie, asking him to settle his fees once he graduates. The scene gave the premiere a grounded finish after the intensity of the port rescue.
Sean Wooledge was played by Derek Phillips, known for his roles in Blood of Zeus and Friday Night Lights. The guest cast also included Christopher Convery as Charlie Wooledge, West Liang as Detective Bill Kao, and Ilia Volok as Archer Litvak.
A New Mystery Tied to Colter’s Past Cases
Before the premiere’s main case began, Colter was seen reading through his journal of past cases. Most entries appeared completed, but he stopped on an earmarked page about an unsolved case. The journal entry read: “Attempted to talk to employer no answer, no one on site — 2 attempts. Follow-up call with M three days later. This time he was more willing to talk. Told me he was home that night and they talked about plans for the next day. She left. Reported seen getting into a car. WHOSE CAR WAS IT?”
The journal entry introduced a season-spanning mystery that will likely carry through upcoming episodes. The premiere also revealed that Reenie was leasing space at Maxine’s law firm after her landlord sold the building, setting up new dynamics for the season.
Big Cast Changes for Season 4
Season 4 brought several cast changes. Cassady McClincy Zhang, who recurred as Mel in Reenie’s law office, was promoted to series regular. Chris Lee, who plays Randy, also became a series regular. The main cast now includes Justin Hartley, Fiona Rene, Chris Lee, and Cassady McClincy Zhang.
Jensen Ackles returns as Russell Shaw, Colter’s older brother. Hartley confirmed Ackles will appear in Season 4, and the showrunner hopes to bring him back for multiple episodes. Ackles filmed his return in episode 5.
Kathleen Robertson returns as Maxine, whose professional relationship with Reenie has grown into a friendship. With Reenie now leasing space at Maxine’s firm, the character is expected to have an expanded role in Season 4.

What Justin Hartley Said About Season 4
Justin Hartley, who also serves as an executive producer on the series, spoke about the show’s evolution in interviews leading up to the premiere. He described Season 4 as the show’s most ambitious chapter yet.
“We’ll come back with something — we already have it, it’s pretty incredible. Honestly, I think it’s our most ambitious season to date, but I think it’s also our richest one, in terms of character and backstory and where we’re taking Colter.”
Hartley also addressed the show’s move from Vancouver to Los Angeles for filming, a change made possible by a $48 million tax credit from California. He said the relocation would not affect the show’s core identity.
“Our show is a road show. Our character goes from town to town across the United States of America and meets people from all different walks of life and helps them out. These strangers become kind of his family in a way.”
Showrunner Elwood Reid teased that Season 4 will explore Mel’s backstory, including the mystery of her mother’s murder. Reid also hinted at a potential romantic storyline for Colter, describing it as planting “the buds of a relationship” rather than jumping into anything serious immediately.
