What Happened in Episode 1: Snow Mountain Training Begins
Episode 1 kicked off the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc with a harsh new trial for the students of Rasetsu Academy. The episode placed Shiki and his classmates on a snow-covered mountain with a simple but brutal rule: the entire group must reach the goal together within 24 hours. A fierce blizzard made the climb even more dangerous.
Part-time instructors Hagure Nekosaki and Yu Innami were brought in by Naito Mudano to stand in the students’ way and push them to their limits. The training was designed to test not just physical strength but teamwork and trust.
The episode also introduced the central conflict of this arc. Ikari Yaoroshi, a fellow student, rejected Mudano’s teachings about the importance of friendship and comrades. He left Rasetsu Academy to join the Oni Brigade, a radical group led by Hayate Todoroki that seeks the complete elimination of all Momotaro.
When Shiki learned that the Oni Brigade’s mission also targets non-combatants, he decided to go after Yaoroshi with Mudano and his classmates. Their search leads them to Nikko, where the famous Kegon Falls have mysteriously stopped flowing. A large research facility has been built in its place, and inside, terrible experiments are being carried out on captive Oni.
Where Every Main Character Stands Right Now
Shiki Ichinose is the main protagonist of the series. He discovered he carries Oni blood after his adoptive father was killed by a Momotaro assassin. Now a student at Rasetsu Academy, Shiki has grown stronger through battles in Kyoto and Nerima. His goal in this arc is to bring Yaoroshi back before the Oni Brigade causes more destruction.
Naito Mudano is a member of the Oni Agency and Shiki’s mentor. He believes in cooperation and friendship between Oni and humans. Yaoroshi’s rejection of his teachings has pushed Mudano to join the pursuit to Nikko. His voice actor is Hiroshi Kamiya.
Ikari Yaoroshi is a student who left Rasetsu Academy to join the Oni Brigade. He has fully embraced Hayate Todoroki’s extreme beliefs about wiping out the Momotaro. His decision puts him on a direct collision course with Shiki and Mudano. His voice actor is Shogo Sakata.
Hayate Todoroki is the leader of the Oni Brigade and a powerful Oni warrior. He is a Child of Kishin, the same rare type as Shiki. Todoroki has a personal vendetta against the Momotaro and seeks their total eradication. He is voiced by Gakuto Kajiwara.
Hagure Nekosaki is a part-time instructor at Rasetsu Academy brought in for the mountain training exercise. He appears polite but is very dangerous. His voice actor is Nobuhiko Okamoto.
Yu Innami is another part-time instructor assisting with the training. He helps push the students to their absolute limits during the snowstorm exercise. His voice actor is Kento Ito.
Jin Kougasaki is a major antagonist from the earlier seasons. He played a key role in the Kyoto and Nerima arcs and remains a threat in the ongoing conflict. His voice actor is Koutaro Nishiyama.
Homare Byoubugaura is a character introduced in this arc. Details about her role in the story are still developing in the anime. Her voice actor is Manaka Iwami.

Why the Kegon Falls Matter
The Kegon Falls in Nikko are a real-world location in Japan, and in the anime, they serve as the setting for the Momotaro Agency’s hidden research facility. The falls have stopped flowing, and a massive laboratory has appeared in their place. Inside, Oni are being used as test subjects for horrific experiments.
The arc’s name comes from this location. The Kegon Falls are known in Japanese culture as a place of mystery and tragedy, making them a fitting backdrop for the dark turn the story takes.
