Kim You-jung and Park Jin-young locked eyes in a tense pawnshop reunion as 100 Days of Deception Episode 2 pulled its pickpocket heroine deeper into a deadly independence movement plot. The episode aired on October 11, 2026, and saw nationwide ratings climb from 5.3% to 7.6%, according to Nielsen Korea.
Ga-gyeong walked straight into danger again. The episode opened right where Episode 1 ended: gunshots rang out at Yoo So-ran’s house during an assassination attempt on Inspector-General Sato Shinichi. A mysterious man disguised as a cake delivery person turned out to be So-ran’s long-lost husband, Geum Seok-jung. The chaos left one interpreter shot, Ga-gyeong arrested, and Hideo once again stepping in to save her.
So-ran’s Past Comes to Light
Kim Hyun-joo‘s Yoo So-ran carries the emotional weight of this episode. After the failed operation, she reveals to Yoo Philip that the assassin was her husband, a man she had not heard from in 13 years. She admits she wanted to find him just to kill him.
A flashback shows what happened to her family. Her husband was taken away during a protest. Their daughter was killed when So-ran begged the authorities to spare her. Even after her husband gave up names to save So-ran, the village was burned with people inside. So-ran fled to Shanghai, became a sniper, and joined the independence group Gugukdan.
“His name is Geum Seok-jung. My husband, whom I hadn’t heard from in 13 years… If I could find him, I wanted to kill him.” — Yoo So-ran
Hideo Saves Ga-gyeong From Arrest
Police swarmed the scene after the gunfight. Fukuda, the head of the police bureau, demanded to know if Ga-gyeong was working with the assassin. Park Jin-young‘s Sato Hideo stood between her and the officers, testifying that she had saved both the chief administrator and himself.
So-ran pretended to be in pain and called out “Seo-hee,” stopping Ga-gyeong from speaking further. Philip warned the police that if they kept suspecting them, he would report the day’s incident. Sato Shinichi eventually withdrew his officers.
The episode also revealed more about Hideo’s complicated position. He is Korean by birth but was adopted by Sato Shinichi. He keeps asking his father what more he must do to be recognized as a son.
Ga-gyeong Walks Away With Almost Nothing
Ga-gyeong asked for 100 won instead of the 60 won she was originally promised, pointing out she had nearly died. So-ran blamed her for ruining the operation. Ga-gyeong returned the passport she had stolen and left without taking the money, wanting only to stay out of the whole dangerous mess.
Philip did not trust her enough to let her go easily. He blocked her with a gun before So-ran insisted on releasing her. He retrieved the stolen passport and let her walk away.
The Pawnshop Ending That Changes Everything
The final scene is where the episode leaves its biggest mark. Ga-gyeong visits a pawn shop in Jongno to sell bullets she had kept. Sato Hideo walks in. She tries to run, but he trips her and catches her around the waist. He says one line: “Caught you, thief”.
Hideo had been searching for her since she stole his wallet. The wallet contained a 13-year-old pawn shop receipt that clearly matters to him. Hideo’s insistence that Ga-gyeong return his wallet raises her suspicions, according to the official Netflix episode description.
“Ga-gyeong’s language skills shock Yoo Philip and Yoo So-ran. Meanwhile, Kim Tae-ung’s insistence that Ga-gyeong return his wallet raises her suspicions.” — Netflix Episode 2 description
Why the Pawnshop Receipt Matters
The old pawn shop receipt Hideo wants back so badly suggests a connection to his childhood. He was born Korean, raised Japanese, and works inside the colonial government while carrying painful memories. The receipt points to a part of his life he has not let go of, even after all these years.

What Makes This Episode Work
Director Yoo In-shik, known for Extraordinary Attorney Woo and Dr. Romantic, keeps the tension tight. The episode balances several storylines without losing focus. So-ran’s painful backstory gives the independence movement a personal face. Hideo’s struggle for his father’s approval adds weight to every scene he shares with Ga-gyeong. And Ga-gyeong herself remains the most relatable figure: a pickpocket who only wants to survive and escape to America, but keeps getting pulled into something much bigger.
The romance between the leads has not started yet. They spend most of the episode suspicious of each other. That slow build works in the show’s favor, letting the danger and secrets do the heavy lifting first.
The ratings jump from 5.3% to 7.6% nationwide shows viewers are responding. Episode 3 is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2026.
