What Happened in Episode 2
Episode 2, titled “The Path to Growing Strong,” delivered a brutal turn for the students of Rasetsu Academy. Shiki Ichinose jumped in to protect an injured Homare Byobugaura and was swept away by a devastating avalanche. He survived but was left unconscious and suffering from a severe fever.
Meanwhile, Juji Yusurube was captured by Yu Innami’s specialized ability. Kuina Sazanami was prepared to abandon their comrade to prioritize the mission, but Rokuro Kiriyama refused to give up on him, leading to a direct confrontation with Innami.
The episode also showed Ikari Yaoroshi struggling against Hagure Nekosaki, further deepening the rift that has formed between Yaoroshi and his classmates.
Shiki Ichinose’s Story So Far
Shiki Ichinose began the series as a reckless teenager who discovered he carried Oni blood after a Momotaro assassin killed his adoptive father. He joined Rasetsu Academy to learn how to control his powers and avenge his father’s death.
By the end of Season 1, Shiki had survived fierce battles in Kyoto and Nerima, gradually understanding the long-standing feud between the Oni and the Momotaro. He also learned about his connection to the legendary Oni Kishin.
In the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, Shiki faces a new challenge. When Yaoroshi leaves the academy to join the radical Oni Brigade, Shiki realizes that the group’s mission targets even non-combatants. He sets out after Yaoroshi with Naito Mudano and his classmates, determined to bring him back.
Homare Byobugaura’s Journey
Homare Byobugaura is a timid student at Rasetsu Academy who struggles with deep-seated trauma from abuse suffered at the hands of her father. Her blood ability allows her to summon a gigantic Blood Titan, but she has long feared her own power, believing she can only harm those around her.
During the Snow Mountain Training Arc, Homare showed immense courage by working tirelessly to save Shiki after he was caught in the avalanche. Her arc centers on transforming self-hatred into self-acceptance and learning to use her power to protect rather than destroy.
Ikari Yaoroshi and the Oni Brigade
Ikari Yaoroshi is a hot-tempered fighter whose blood ability turns his anger into unpredictable weapons. He can only activate his Blood Eclipse Release three times a day, and the outcome is random each time.
Yaoroshi rejected Mudano’s teachings about friendship and comradeship. He was drawn to the Oni Brigade, a radical faction led by Hayate Todoroki that seeks the complete elimination of all Momotaro, including civilians. Yaoroshi left Rasetsu Academy to join their cause.
The Oni Brigade operates separately from the main Oni Agency. Its members include Uri Torikai, Shinichi Fuwa, Misaki Kakoi, Gou Todomeki, Kyotaro Otohara, Akari Hirunuma, and Miyo Umitsuki.
The Oni Brigade’s Threat
The Oni Brigade believes in the total eradication of the Momotaro bloodline. Their philosophy goes beyond fighting enemy agents. It targets anyone with Momotaro heritage, regardless of whether they are combatants or civilians.
Shiki and his classmates are now racing to Nikko, where the Kegon Falls have mysteriously stopped flowing. A massive research facility has been built at the site, and horrific experiments are being conducted on Oni within its walls. The Oni Brigade’s attack on this facility will push Shiki to a point of no return.
Supporting Characters and Their Roles
Naito Mudano is an instructor at Rasetsu Academy and a member of the Oni Agency. He teaches students the importance of friendship and teamwork, values that Yaoroshi openly rejected. Mudano leads the mission to bring Yaoroshi back.
Jin Kougasaki is Shiki’s classmate and a skilled fighter who initially clashed with Shiki but has grown into a reliable ally. Juji Yusurube is a calm and analytical student who was captured by Innami’s ability. Kuina Sazanami is a fierce fighter with a borderline obsessive mentality who prioritizes the mission above all else. Rokuro Kiriyama is a loyal and compassionate student who refused to abandon Yusurube.
Hagure Nekosaki and Yu Innami are part-time instructors brought in by Mudano to serve as obstacles during the snow mountain training. They are powerful Oni with unique abilities.
