Episode 2 Recap: What Happened Before Episode 3

Episode 2, titled “Cheese-Flavored Omelette,” aired on October 9, 2026. The episode picked up right after the attack on Broccoli Village, with Welsh and his companions fleeing for their lives. Welsh was injured during the escape, and the group desperately searched for help.

The episode introduced a new ally who helps the group tend to Welsh’s wounds. Meanwhile, the story continued to build the world of Bonta, showing how Queen Zabel has ruled without any real opposition for years. Her control is enforced by Azalar, the dragon who serves as the guardian of the Ebony Dofus. No one has been able to stand against Zabel’s power.

The episode also deepened the mystery around Shedar, the young prince of Bonta. Shedar is being groomed to rule, but he has begun to question his mother’s methods. The prophecy that Shedar himself once spoke—that a blue-eyed boy would bring an end to Zabel’s reign—hangs over the entire story.

What to Expect in Episode 3: Licorice Tea

The title of Episode 3 is “Licorice Tea.” The official synopsis reveals that the pursuers hunting Welsh and his group are finally making their move. The group is also set to learn more about the world they live in through an old tale, which will show them just how large and complicated their surroundings truly are.

This episode marks a turning point in the series. The first two episodes focused on introducing Welsh, his peaceful life in Broccoli Village, and the attack that shattered it. Episode 3 shifts the story into full adventure mode, with the heroes no longer just running—they are being actively hunted.

Welsh: A Cook Thrown Into a War

Welsh is a 16-year-old boy from Broccoli Village. He is kind, good-natured, and loves cooking more than anything else. He was raised by his foster mother and cooking teacher, Mama Caroni, alongside their tomcat, Mū. His quiet life ended when Azalar, the black dragon, attacked his village. Welsh was saved by a mysterious figure named Joris, who pulled him into a much larger conflict.

Welsh carries the weight of a prophecy he never asked for. He has azure-blue eyes, which marks him as the boy destined to end Queen Zabel’s rule. He is voiced by Rikuya Yasuda, who has said the cooking scenes are a key part of the show’s charm and that the animation impressed him during recording.

Shedar: The Prince Who Spoke a Prophecy

Shedar is the 16-year-old prince of Bonta, the largest kingdom on the continent. He is clever and level-headed, and he was raised to support his mother, Queen Zabel, and prepare for the day he would take the throne.

Shedar’s story is complicated because he is the one who spoke the prophecy that foretold his mother’s downfall. A blue-eyed boy would bring an end to Zabel’s power, and that boy is Welsh. Shedar begins to question his mother’s actions after a pivotal event, setting him on a path that could put him at odds with his own family. He is voiced by Yūki Kaji.

Queen Zabel: The Tyrant Who Rules With Fear

Queen Zabel is the ruler of Bonta and the guardian of the Ebony Dofus, a legendary artifact said to have created the world. Its power can be used for great good or terrible evil, and Zabel seeks world domination with it. She is protected by Azalar, the dragon who serves as the Ebony Dofus’s avatar. No one has dared to oppose her for years. She is voiced by Yūko Kaida.
