On August 29, Na Young Seok PD shared surprising details about his company’s financial challenges during a YouTube live broadcast with YouTuber and webtoon author Calm Down Man. The discussion touched on the delayed release of the highly anticipated drama, Wise Resident Life, which has impacted the company’s financial stability.
Financial Difficulties Revealed
Na Young Seok PD, known for his work on popular variety shows, including Three Meals a Day, spoke candidly about the financial struggles faced by his company this year. He explained,
“Actually, this year, our company is on the defensive. Frankly, this year was supposed to be a good year for us, financially.”
The PD elaborated that the company faced a financial crunch, which required him to focus on projects that would ensure profitability. He noted,
“The company was running low on funds, so I had to go with programs that would ensure profits. Fortunately, it had been a while since we did Jinny’s Kitchen and Three Meals a Day, so I was able to go with those.”
Impact of Delayed Project
Na Young Seok PD revealed that the unexpected financial strain was partly due to a delayed project, which was supposed to account for a significant portion of the company’s annual operating profit. He stated,
“At the beginning of the year, our company’s president said to me that I didn’t have to worry about making a big profit through variety shows. This year, the company had another project that was supposed to guarantee 60~70% of the annual operating profit. But due to unforeseen circumstances, the release of that project was delayed.”
The delayed project in question is believed to be the tvN drama Wise Resident Life (also known as Resident Playbook). The drama, a spin-off of the successful Hospital Playlist series, was initially set to premiere in May 2024. However, its release has been postponed to 2025 due to ongoing walkouts by South Korean medical professionals.
Strategic Adjustments
Despite the setbacks, Na Young Seok PD managed to mitigate potential losses by preparing for Jinny’s Kitchen 2, which helped the company avoid further financial issues.
