Sir Elton John, 77, shared an emotional update about his vision loss during the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical in London on December 1. Despite being unable to watch the show due to his condition, the legendary singer reassured the audience that he still enjoyed the musical experience.

Vision Loss Confirmed

During the event, Elton John addressed the audience, saying:

“As some of you may know, I have had issues and now I have lost my sight. I haven’t been able to see the performance, but I have enjoyed it.”

The Grammy-winning musician has been battling vision problems for some time, a condition that worsened earlier this year.

Gratitude for Support

Elton John expressed his heartfelt thanks to his husband, David Furnish, for being a pillar of support through this challenging time. He shared his appreciation with the audience:

“To my husband, who’s been my rock because I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews. It’s hard for me to see it, but I love to hear it, and it sounded good tonight.”

Furnish, who has been by Elton’s side both personally and professionally, continues to help him navigate the effects of his condition.

Struggles with Eye Infection

Elton John’s vision issues became public earlier this year when he shared details on social media. In September, he posted about suffering a partial loss of vision in one eye due to an eye infection. On Instagram, he stated:

“I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process, and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.”

During an interview on Good Morning America in November, John revealed the severity of the situation. He confirmed that he had lost sight in his right eye due to the infection, while his left eye was already significantly weakened. As a result, reading lyrics or watching performances has become nearly impossible for the iconic musician.

Cause of the Condition

The singer contracted the eye infection while vacationing in the south of France earlier this year. The illness led to the current complications, including partial blindness. Though this has limited his ability to participate in certain professional activities, Elton John remains optimistic about his recovery.

Focus on Recovery

While stepping back from studio work temporarily, Elton John is focusing on healing and recovery. Despite his health struggles, the Rocket Man singer has not lost his determination to continue with his creative and personal pursuits.
