Super Junior, one of K-pop’s most legendary groups, recently celebrated their 20th debut anniversary. The group sat down for an exclusive interview to discuss their new variety show, Woke Up to SUPER TV, their bond after two decades, and their love for fans worldwide, including India.
The nine-member group—Leeteuk, Heechul, Yesung, Shindong, Eunhyuk, Siwon, Donghae, Ryeowook, and Kyuhyun—shared behind-the-scenes stories, their thoughts on staying together for so long, and upcoming projects.
Woke Up to SUPER TV: A Celebration of 20 Years
Woke Up to SUPER TV aired from March 21, 2025, for 10 episodes on platforms like TVING, iQIYI, Kocowa, and Amazon Prime’s Kocowa. The show features the group in a large-scale escape room concept, filled with humor, teamwork, and unexpected emotional moments.
Shindong said, “When I first heard the concept, I thought, ‘Oh, this is going to be really fun!’ Escape game elements aren’t very common in variety shows, but I thought if we approached it in our own style, it could turn into something fresh and entertaining.”
The members agreed that the show perfectly captures their chaotic yet endearing chemistry. Kyuhyun recalled one of the most memorable moments:
“The zombie game we played together at the Jjimjilbang (Korean sauna) stands out the most. I think we were just genuinely having fun, forgetting that we were filming.”
Upcoming Comeback and Tour Plans
Super Junior also confirmed they are working on a new album and concert tour. Heechul shared his excitement and nervousness about their upcoming activities.
“Honestly, I think the fans are excited and nervous, but I feel even more excited and nervous. It’s been a long time since we’ve gone on tour together!”
Staying Together for 20 Years: How Do They Do It?
One of the biggest questions for fans is how Super Junior has managed to stay united for two decades. Yesung explained:
“Rather than saying it has become easier, I think it’s more that we understand each other better now and have learned to be more considerate because we’ve spent so much time together.”
Donghae added a heartfelt message for their fans, ELF (Ever Lasting Friends):
“The fact that we met is a miracle, and the fact that we’ve stayed together until now is also a miracle. I believe that our future together will be a miracle too!! I believe another 20 years will be no problem!”
Super Junior’s Love for Indian Fans
The group expressed a strong desire to visit India and meet their fans there. Ryeowook even suggested a potential Season 2 of Woke Up to SUPER TV being filmed in India.
“I think it would be fun to go overseas and experience two completely opposite lifestyles. If possible, I’d really like to go to India, feel many new things, and meet ELF there too.”
Donghae also shared his excitement:
“I want to go meet you soon. If we get the chance, I’d love to do a concert and spend a fun time together!”
As one of the pioneering groups in K-pop, Super Junior reflected on the genre’s global growth. Siwon stated:
“K-pop is no longer just a genre. It has become a language that communicates with the world. I’m proud that we were there at the starting point of that journey.”
Fans can expect more music, variety content, and possibly a world tour soon. The group remains committed to entertaining their fans for years to come.
