The images provide a look at the Hawkins crew reuniting for one last stand against the Upside Down, featuring core cast members like Millie Bobby Brown and Noah Schnapp. The first volume of episodes is already streaming, setting the stage for a three-part conclusion to the global phenomenon.
The Story for the Final Season
The fifth season picks up in the fall of 1987, eighteen months after the massive rifts tore through Hawkins. The town is under military quarantine, and the government is intensively hunting for Eleven, forcing her into hiding. The core group of friends is united by a single mission: to find and kill Vecna. However, his whereabouts are unknown, and a new, powerful threat looms.

The plot thickens when a Demogorgon attack leads to the abduction of Holly Wheeler, Mike and Nancy’s younger sister. This event forces the party to confront a terrifying realization: Vecna has been targeting Hawkins’ children, using a connection that traces back to the very beginning of the story.

The newly released photos offer glimpses of both tension and camaraderie on set. One shot shows Gaten Matarazzo’s Dustin sporting a torn Hellfire Club t-shirt, a clear tribute to his fallen friend Eddie Munson. Other images capture moments between characters, like Joe Keery’s Steve Harrington and Charlie Heaton’s Jonathan Byers sharing a scene, reviving a dynamic not heavily featured since earlier seasons.
The gallery includes pictures of the core group, including Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven, Finn Wolfhard’s Mike, and Caleb McLaughlin’s Lucas, looking determined and much older than their season one counterparts. The presence of Linda Hamilton, who joins the cast as the formidable Dr. Kay, is also highlighted.
The Return of Will Byers’ Connection
A central element of the new season is the resurgence of Will Byers’ connection to the Upside Down. The season premiere reveals that Vecna was actually present during Will’s abduction in the first season, creating a direct link between the first and final chapters of the story. Noah Schnapp, who plays Will, discussed exploring this powerful side of his character. “I was really excited to step into the role this season and get to face Vecna,” Schnapp said. He added that seeing the story tie back to the beginning was “really satisfying”.

The final season introduces new faces to Hawkins. Linda Hamilton stars as Dr. Kay, the leader of the military operation quarantining the town. Nell Fisher plays a pivotal role as Holly Wheeler, whose kidnapping sets major events in motion. Other new cast members include Jake Connelly as Derek and Alex Breaux as Lt. Akers.
The military’s presence complicates the group’s mission, creating a dual threat alongside the supernatural dangers from the Upside Down. Millie Bobby Brown, speaking about working with Linda Hamilton, called her an “icon” and a “legend”.
