The official trailer for the long-awaited Peaky Blinders film has arrived, bringing Cillian Murphy back as Tommy Shelby for one more fight. Titled Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, the movie shows a man trying to escape his past only to be pulled back into a world of violence. The film is set for a global release in March 2026.
The story picks up four years after the series ended, with Tommy living in exile. A new teaser, released on December 24, 2025, asks “Whatever happened to Tommy Shelby?”. Tommy answers a call and says, “It’s Tommy Shelby. The famous gypsy gangsterโฆ I’m not that man anymore”. Despite his claim, the trailer is filled with explosions, gunfire, and scenes of chaos, suggesting his peaceful life is over. Someone off-screen delivers a clear message: “Tommyโฆ you’ve got to come back”.
What Is The Movie About?
The official story description sets the scene in Birmingham in 1940, as World War II creates global chaos. Tommy Shelby is forced to leave his self-imposed exile to face what is called his “most destructive reckoning yet”. With his family’s future and the fate of the country on the line, Tommy must battle his own inner struggles. He has a final choice: to deal with the legacy he built or to destroy it completely.
Series creator Steven Knight, who wrote the film, says the country is at war, and so are the Peaky Blinders. He promises an “explosive chapter” with “no holds barred”. The trailer hints at this scale, showing large gatherings that appear to involve Nazi figures, placing the Shelby family’s conflict within the larger war.
Who Is Coming Back and Who Is New?
Cillian Murphy leads the returning cast as the iconic Tommy Shelby. Murphy has said, “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasnโt finished with me”. He called working on the film “very gratifying” and said this project is “one for the fans”.
He is joined by familiar faces from the Shelby family business. Sophie Rundle returns as Ada Thorne, Tommy’s sister. Stephen Graham and Ned Dennehy are back as allies Hayden Stagg and Charlie Strong.
The film also introduces major new stars to the Peaky Blinders world. Rebecca Ferguson (Dune) and Oscar-nominated Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) join the cast in significant new roles. Keoghan, who worked with Murphy on Dunkirk, said he had “always wanted to be part of” Peaky Blinders and immediately agreed when Murphy asked him to join.
Other new cast members include Tim Roth, Packy Lee, Ian Peck, and Jay Lycurgo.
How and When Can You Watch It?
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man will first open in select movie theaters around the world. The theater release date is March 6, 2026.
Two weeks later, the film will be available for everyone to stream on Netflix starting March 20, 2026. This dual-release plan lets fans choose to see it on the big screen or watch from home.
The film is directed by Tom Harper, who previously directed episodes of the TV series, and is produced in association with BBC Film.

What This Means for Tommy Shelby’s Story
The TV series ended with Tommy Shelby staging his own death. After believing he had a terminal illness, he burned down his mansion and rode away on a white horse, hoping to start a new, quiet life. The final shot was of him riding into the distance, leaving his life as a gangster behind.
The new trailer makes it clear that peace did not last. The line “I’m not that man anymore” is directly followed by images of the violent life he claims to have left. The call back to action suggests that a new powerful threat has emerged, one that endangers both his family and his country. Tommy must decide if he will become the “immortal man” of the titleโa lasting legendโor if he will finally bring his own story to an end.
“The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders,” said creator Steven Knight. “It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred”.
