One gave her more satisfaction than the other.

The transition from being an idol to an actor is a frequent road taken by many in the industry, but only a few see success in both as Suzy has.

After debuting as a member of Miss A in 2010, Suzy made her acting debut the very next year through KBS2’s Dream High season 1. In both fields, she maintained a strong foothold in both industries, quickly gaining the nickname “Nation’s First Love” after her 2012 film Architecture 101. In 2017, Miss A disbanded, and Suzy ventured onto a solo career as a singer and actor.

Recently, the idol-turned-actress sat down with Wikitree and gave an interview for her upcoming movie Wonderland. During the conversation, she talked about her past self candidly, pointing out that, looking back, her old self seemed cute to her.

When I was a bit younger than I am now, I didn’t think I looked cute in my past photos. But now, when I look back, I often find myself thinking I was really cute. To be honest, my memories aren’t very clear, so there are many instances where I go, ‘Why was I even there?’ I think I find it cuter because my memories have faded.

Talking about the shift in her career from idol to actor, Suzy straightforwardly admitted that acting as a profession offers her much higher satisfaction in life. She admitted that when she was younger, she lived a very intense and restrictive life. But the pace of it all blurred any feeling of introspection.

Back then, I didn’t have much leisure time, and things were a bit more intense. I lacked opportunities to reflect on or observe the life that I was living. So, I wouldn’t even say that I thought things were hard for me. It was more like me trying to get through it, thinking I didn’t really have a choice—especially because I was so young.

She then added that now, with the time to reflect on her life, the “sense of satisfaction is incomparably greater.”

Meanwhile, Suzy’s movie Wonderland is a sci-fi romance drama that deals with the story of an artificial intelligence program that allows people to communicate with their deceased loved ones through video calls. The film is set to release nationwide on June 5.
