Amazon Prime Video is bringing the world of God of War to television. The live-action series, based on the hit PlayStation games, has been in production since early 2026. Fans have been waiting to see how their favorite characters will look in Live-action. With a two-season order already confirmed, the show has gathered a large group of actors to play gods, monsters, and warriors. Here is a complete look at the God of War cast and how they compare to the video game characters they are playing.

Ryan Hurst Steps Into Kratos’s Shoes

Ryan Hurst takes on the lead role of Kratos, the Ghost of Sparta. In the video games, Kratos is a large, bald, bearded warrior with red markings on his body. He has white skin because of a curse after he accidentally killed his first family. The character is known for his deep, rough voice and his huge size.

Hurst is best known for his work on Sons of Anarchy where he played Opie. He is 6’4″ tall and has a strong build. Interestingly, Hurst already has a connection to the God of War games. He provided the voice and performance for Thor in God of War Ragnarök. After his casting was announced, he wrote on Instagram, “Used to play as him. Now I get to be him. Grateful to pick up the axe, and honored by the fans who made this story legendary.”

Fans on Reddit have pointed out that Hurst has the right “sad dad energy” for the role, which fits the story of Kratos trying to raise his son. The first look image released by Amazon in March 2026 showed Hurst in full costume, and while some fans had mixed reactions, others are waiting to see the final product with visual effects added.

Callum Vinson Brings Atreus to Life

Playing the young son of Kratos is Callum Vinson. In the God of War games from 2018 and 2022, Atreus starts as a boy who does not know he is a god. He learns to fight with a bow and arrow while also discovering his giant heritage.

Vinson has appeared in The Night Agent season 3, which is also a Sony production. The first look photo shows him standing next to Hurst’s Kratos. He shared on his Instagram Stories, “So excited to be working on another series with my friends @sonypictures.”

The relationship between Kratos and Atreus is the main focus of the story. The show will follow them on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. According to the official description, Kratos wants to teach his son how to be a better god, while Atreus wants to teach his father how to be a better human.

Alastair Duncan Returns as Mimir

One of the most interesting casting choices is Alastair Duncan as Mimir. In the video games, Mimir is a decapitated head who hangs from Kratos’s belt. He is known as the smartest man alive and provides advice and stories throughout the journey.

Duncan is the only actor in the main cast who is playing the same character he voiced in the games. He voiced Mimir in both God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök. This means he already knows the character’s personality, humor, and backstory very well. Fans are happy to see him return to the role for the live-action version.

Mandy Patinkin Takes on Odin

Mandy Patinkin will play Odin, the All-Father of Norse mythology. In the games, Odin is a manipulative and paranoid ruler who uses lies, deals, and fear to control the nine realms. He is not a fighter who uses a hammer like Thor. Instead, Odin prefers to stay in the shadows and use others to do his dirty work.

Patinkin is famous for his roles in The Princess Bride, Homeland, and Criminal Minds. He brings a lot of experience playing characters who are both charming and dangerous. His version of Odin is expected to be very different from the Marvel version of the character.

Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor

Ólafur Darri Ólafsson will play Thor, the god of thunder. In the God of War games, Thor is a massive, brutal, and drunken warrior. He is very different from the heroic version seen in other movies. This Thor kills giants without mercy and has a reputation for extreme violence. He carries the hammer Mjölnir, which he uses to smash his enemies.

Ólafsson is known for his work in Severance and The Missing. He is tall and has a strong presence that fits the character. Fans of the games know that Thor and Kratos have a major fight in God of War Ragnarök, so viewers can expect intense action scenes between Ólafsson and Hurst.

Teresa Palmer Plays Sif

Teresa Palmer joins the God of War cast as Sif, the wife of Thor. In the games, Sif is a powerful and commanding goddess. She is not just a background character. Sif is a skilled warrior who cares deeply about her family’s honor. She has a tense relationship with her husband because of his drinking and violence.

Palmer is known for movies like Warm Bodies, Lights Out, and Berlin Syndrome. After her casting was announced, she wrote on Instagram, “GAME ON.” Her character will likely play a big role in the family drama between Odin, Thor, and their children.

Max Parker as Heimdall

Max Parker will play Heimdall, the watchman of the gods. In God of War Ragnarök, Heimdall is a major enemy for Kratos. He has the ability to read people’s intentions before they act, making him very hard to fight. He is arrogant, cruel, and looks down on everyone who is not a god from Asgard.

Parker posted on Instagram after his casting, writing, “I’ll see you in Asgard.” This suggests his character will have a lot of screen time and will be a significant threat to Kratos and Atreus.

Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka as Brok and Sindri

The dwarf brothers Brok and Sindri are fan-favorite characters from the games. Danny Woodburn will play Brok, who is loud, rude, and uses very colorful language. He is a master blacksmith who makes powerful weapons. Jeff Gulka will play Sindri, who is clean, nervous, and afraid of dirt and germs. He is also a brilliant craftsman.

In the games, the two brothers are separated because of a past disagreement, but they both help Kratos and Atreus on their journey. Woodburn wrote on Instagram, “I’m so excited to be part of this next incredible adventure. Forging ahead … once again, I will be building weapons.” Gulka also shared his excitement, saying, “Honoured to be part of this adventure.”

New Cast Additions: Thor’s Children and a Valkyrie

In March 2026, Amazon announced four more actors joining the God of War cast. These new characters are connected to Thor’s family and Odin’s army.

Louis Cunningham will play Modi. He is the middle child of Thor and Sif. Modi has a gentle personality and loves solving puzzles. He often gets lost in his own thoughts. Cunningham is known for playing Louis XVI in the series Marie Antoinette.

Ben Chapple will play Magni. He is the oldest son of Thor and Sif. Magni is handsome, adventurous, and a skilled hunter. He lives like an immortal playboy but is starting to feel empty inside. He is very protective of his younger brother, Modi. Chapple is an Australian actor known for Good Cop Bad Cop.

Island Austin will play Thrud. She is the youngest child of Thor and Sif. Thrud is curious, brave, and very smart. She often acts as the peacemaker in her troubled family. Her grandfather Odin sees great potential in her because she reminds him of himself. Austin has appeared in Insidious 6 and I Can Only Imagine 2.

Evelyn Miller will play Gna. She is Odin’s Valkyrie commander. Gna is a fierce warrior who is completely loyal to Odin. Her dedication to her duty is so strong that she sometimes hurts herself in the process. Miller is a British actress who has performed on stage with James McAvoy in Cyrano De Bergerac and has appeared in Foundation and Doctor Who.

Ed Skrein as Baldur

Ed Skrein will play Baldur, the son of Odin and brother of Thor. In the 2018 God of War game, Baldur is the main enemy who chases Kratos and Atreus across the realms. He is cursed with a spell that makes him unable to feel anything. This makes him desperate, angry, and nearly impossible to kill. Skrein is known for his roles in Deadpool and The Transporter: Refueled.

How the Show Handles the Game’s Story

The live-action series will adapt the story from the two most recent games: God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök (2022). The show has received a two-season order from Amazon, which gives the creators enough time to tell the full story without rushing. Production is currently happening in Vancouver, Canada.

Ronald D. Moore serves as the showrunner. He is known for his work on Battlestar Galactica and Outlander. Frederick E.O. Toye will direct the first two episodes. Toye has worked on popular shows like Shōgun, The Boys, and Fallout.

The series is a co-production between Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, and PlayStation Productions. This means the people who made the games are directly involved in making the show.

Fan Reactions to the God of War Cast

The God of War cast has received mostly positive reactions from fans. Many are happy to see Ryan Hurst take on the role of Kratos because of his past work. His performance as Opie in Sons of Anarchy showed he can play a big, strong character who is also dealing with deep emotional pain. This fits perfectly with the version of Kratos in the newer games, who is trying to control his anger while raising his son.

Some fans were surprised to see Hurst playing Kratos because he already played Thor in the video games. However, most agree that he has the right look and voice for the lead role.

The first look image released in March 2026 received mixed feedback. Some fans on social media said the image looked “off” or compared it to a sketch from a comedy show. Others pointed out that video games like God of War already look very realistic, so a live-action version has a high bar to reach. Some fans suggested that Amazon should have cast a professional wrestler like Triple H to play Kratos instead. But many are waiting to see the finished product with proper lighting, visual effects, and editing before making a final judgment.

The addition of Alastair Duncan as Mimir was widely praised because he is returning to a role he already made famous in the games. Fans appreciate when live-action adaptations keep the same actors from the original source material.
