The Fall 2026 anime season is bringing a different kind of fantasy story to the screen. Romelia War Chronicle begins with the Demon King already defeated and the hero’s party celebrating their victory. The catch is that the story is not about the hero at all. It follows the woman who gets tossed aside the moment the fighting ends, and she is about to build something far more interesting than a victory parade.

Romelia War Chronicle is produced by Atra and directed by Hiroshi Shirai, with KOHTA YAMAMOTO composing the music. The anime adapts Ryo Ariyama’s light novel series, which began on the user-generated novel site Shosetsuka ni Naro in 2019 before being published by Shogakukan under the Gagaga Bunko label. The series will run for two cours, giving the story plenty of room to develop beyond the opening episodes.

Romelia War Chronicle Anime Overview: Story, Cast and Production Team

The original Romelia War Chronicle light novel series is written by Ryo Ariyama with illustrations by Kodama. The story originally appeared on Shosetsuka ni Naro in 2019 and was later published by Shogakukan under the Gagaga Bunko imprint. The series concluded with its sixth volume in November 2025. A manga adaptation with art by Ryo Kamito launched on Mag Garden’s Mag Comi platform in January 2022, and Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the manga in English under the title Romelia War Chronicle: The Count’s Daughter Rallies an Army in the Wake of Mankind’s Victory.

The story begins after the Demon King Zelgis has been defeated. Romelia von Graham, a count’s daughter with no magic and no battlefield strength, traveled alongside her fiancé Prince Henri Lleus Lionel on his quest to save humanity. Her role in the party was never about fighting. She handled trade, negotiation, finances, and information gathering. When the fighting ended, Henri declared their engagement annulled and labeled her dead weight in front of everyone.

While Henri and his new companions return home as celebrated heroes, Romelia goes home as a disgrace. She discovers that her homeland is still devastated. Demon forces continue to roam, prisoners remain trapped, and the kingdom’s economy is in ruins. Defeating the Demon King did not fix any of this. Romelia decides to use the skills that nobody valued on the front line to raise her own army and rebuild what the war destroyed.

The main cast includes:

  • Yuna Nemoto as Romelia von Graham — the count’s daughter who rebuilds a military force after being discarded
  • Yuya Hirose as Henri Lleus Lionel — the prince who breaks off his engagement with Romelia after the Demon King’s defeat
  • Jin Ogasawara as Al — a knight who stands beside Romelia in her new command
  • Tomohiro Ono as Ray — another key member of Romelia’s forces
  • Sayaka Senbongi as Elisabeth — the saint who once journeyed alongside Romelia
  • Mariya Ise as Ekaterina — a powerful mage known as the Sage of the Forest of No Return
  • Asaka as Ryoki — a female swordsman with a bold fighting style
  • Shoya Chiba as Gran
  • Gakuto Kajiwara as Ragn
  • Shun Horie as Kyle
  • Ryunosuke Watanuki as Otto

The production team includes Hiroshi Shirai as director, Takahiro Hirata as assistant director, Aya Satsuki handling series composition and screenplays, Yoshiko Saito and Yuta Otaka on character design, and Masakazu Miyake as art director. KOHTA YAMAMOTO composes the music, with Pony Canyon handling music production. Chogakusei performs the opening theme “Akatsuki ni Naru” (Daybreak Resounds), while KOHTA YAMAMOTO performs the ending theme “Nightfall feat. Maika Loubté”.

Romelia War Chronicle Episode 0 Prelude and Story Setup

Ahead of the main anime’s premiere, an original Episode 0 titled “The First Step” was published on the official website. Written by original author Ryo Ariyama, this prequel episode covers Romelia’s story leading up to the moment she receives her divine blessing before setting out on her journey. It serves as an essential introduction to the main anime story, giving viewers the full picture of who Romelia was before the Demon King’s defeat changed everything.

Episode 0 shows Romelia before she joined Prince Henri’s quest. It establishes her background, her relationship with her family, and the moment she received her blessing. This context matters because the main series begins with Romelia already being discarded. Understanding what she sacrificed to be there makes her decision to rebuild her life from nothing land with more weight.

English subtitles are available for the simulcast release on Crunchyroll. The Japanese audio features the original voice cast, with Yuna Nemoto delivering Romelia’s perspective as someone who refuses to accept the role the world has assigned to her.
