The Apple TV+ drama Your Friends & Neighbors returned for its second season on April 3, 2026. The first episode, titled “We’re Here Until We’re Not,” brings a new face to the wealthy neighborhood of Westmont Village. James Marsden joins the cast as Owen Ashe, a mysterious rich newcomer who immediately stirs up trouble. Meanwhile, Jon Hamm’s character Andrew “Coop” Cooper faces a very personal problem during a heist that forces him to reveal his secret life to an unlikely person.

The new season finds Coop in a better place compared to where Season 1 left off. He has avoided jail time, rebuilt some family connections, and continued his side business of stealing from his rich neighbors. But the arrival of Marsden’s character threatens to expose everything Coop has worked to protect. The episode also sets up major changes for several other characters, including a surprise pregnancy and a new job offer that could tear a marriage apart.

James Marsden Brings a Wealthy Stranger to Westmont Village

James Marsden plays Owen Ashe, a wealthy widower who moves into town with his flashy blue sports car and a lot of cash. He first appears at the home of Sam (Olivia Munn) , who is now working as a real estate agent after her legal troubles from Season 1. Ashe looks at Sam’s old house but finds it too small for his taste. When Sam honestly tells him that her husband died by suicide in that house, Ashe does not get scared away. Instead, he shares that his wife also died eight years ago.

Ashe then asks Sam to show him another property. He picks the Bisbee estate and buys it for the full asking price of $20 million in cash right on the spot. This sale gives Sam a million-dollar commission, which is a huge win for someone the rest of the neighborhood has pushed away. Ashe later throws a big housewarming party where he charms everyone with his easy smile and blunt sense of humor.

The show’s creator Jonathan Tropper said the role was written specifically for Marsden.

“When we came up with the idea of the character, we became very committed to the idea of James Marsden. He was the model from the very beginning. I began stalking him, and I did a lot of things to get in front of him and pitch him the show.”

Jon Hamm also praised his new co-star, saying Marsden is on a hot streak with shows like Jury Duty and Paradise. “We were lucky to get him, and he delivers. He comes in, and he knocks it out of the park,” Hamm said.

Coop’s Back Gives Out During a Routine Burglary

While Ashe settles into town, Coop continues his secret life of crime. He and his partner Elena (Aimee Carrero) break into a house to steal an expensive pen. The job seems simple until Coop drops the pen on the floor. When he bends down to pick it up, his back suddenly gives out. He cannot move or stand up. Elena tries to help him, but he is stuck on the floor inside someone else’s home.

With no other choice, Coop calls Barney (Hoon Lee) , his best friend who has no idea about the burglaries. Barney shows up, helps get Coop out of the house, and quickly figures out the truth. Coop has been lying to everyone about his “business trips.” Barney gets angry, not just about the crime but because Coop turned down a real job offer from his old company. He feels betrayed that his friend chose this dangerous path instead of a normal life.

But the night does not end there. After Coop gets home safely, Barney comes back with a surprising request. He wants to join Coop’s robbery crew. Barney needs to take control of his own future, especially after his wife Grace (Eunice Bae) tells him she is pregnant with their third child. Grace has been pushing Barney to work for her rich father, a job he does not want. Joining Coop seems like the only way out.

Family Secrets and New Problems for Everyone Else

The premiere also checks in with the rest of the cast. Mel (Amanda Peet) , Coop’s ex-wife, goes on a date but stops things before they get too far. She later talks with Coop’s sister Ali (Lena Hall) about going through perimenopause. Mel asks Ali to keep this information from Coop because she feels awkward about getting older.

Ali also gets a job offer to teach music at a private school, thanks to Mel. She is nervous about taking the position because she lacks experience, but Mel pushes her to be more confident and accept it.

Grace tells Barney she is pregnant. This news explains why she has been so worried about money and safety. She does not know what Barney really does for work, but she knows something is not right. Her father offers Barney a stable job, which would give the family security. But Barney hates working for his father-in-law. The pregnancy puts even more pressure on their marriage.

Sam continues to struggle with her reputation. Even though she helped Ashe buy a house, the other women in town still avoid her. She shows up briefly at Ashe’s party but leaves quickly when he tries to get her to stay.

What the Ending Sets Up for the Rest of Season 2

The episode ends with Coop and Barney sitting by a fire. Coop explains why he did not go back to his old finance job. He felt scared that his life would return to exactly how it was before, and he did not want that. Something inside him changed after everything that happened in Season 1. Barney listens and then says he wants to join the crew. Coop thinks it is a bad idea, but he also feels excited about what could come next.

Meanwhile, Owen Ashe remains a mystery. He tells people he is good at burning bridges, which sounds like a warning. He offers to invest in Nick’s (Mark Tallman) gym business, which makes Barney nervous because it sounds too good to be true. No one knows where Ashe got his money or why he really moved to Westmont. He has a teenage daughter who seems to dislike him. The episode shows Coop looking around Ashe’s house during the party, suggesting he might already be thinking about robbing his new neighbor.

Your Friends & Neighbors Season 2 will release one new episode every Friday on Apple TV+. The season has 10 episodes total, which is one more than the first season. Episode 2 arrives on April 10, 2026. The show has already been renewed for a third season.
