When asked to describe his character Matthew Lee in just one word, Ahn Hyo Seop chose a very tasty answer. He compared Matthew to soboro bread, which is a Korean sweet bun with a crumbly topping. The outside looks hard and dry, but the inside is soft and sweet.
“He looks stiff and cold on the outside, but inside he has a warm heart. Even if it doesn’t seem that way, he really takes care of the people around him and puts his heart into them. Matthew felt like the kind of guy who needs attention and love too.”
This description fits Matthew Lee perfectly. In the drama, Matthew is a young farmer who runs the only farm in the world that grows white flower mushrooms. These mushrooms are very rare and valuable. The beauty industry calls them a “miracle ingredient” for skin products.
Matthew does not just farm. He also works as the CEO of a natural ingredients company and a cosmetics researcher. He holds three jobs at the same time. But there is a problem. Dam Ye Jin suffers from very bad insomnia. She cannot sleep well because of her stressful job. On the outside, she looks full of energy and confidence. But inside, she is tired and needs rest.
The story begins when Ye Jin travels to Deokpung Village to find Matthew Lee. She needs his special mushrooms for a business deal. But Matthew refuses to work with her. He wants to protect his mushrooms like they are his own children. This creates a lot of funny fights between the two characters.
