Amber Heard is making her acting comeback in Jeremy O. Harris’ new play “Spirit of the People.” This marks her first major role since the 2022 legal battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp. The play will premiere at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Massachusetts.

Heard shared a rehearsal selfie with Harris on Instagram, captioning it, “In my theatre era.” The photo shows them backstage preparing for the production. Fans noticed she disabled comments, keeping focus on her work.

The play is set to debut on July 17, 2025, and will run until August 3. It features a star-studded cast, including Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why) and Lรญo Mehiel (Mutt). Harris described the play as a mix of English and Spanish, despite not speaking Spanish himself.

“The play is half in Spanish, and I donโ€™t speak Spanish,” Harris told Variety. “The play has a significant level of prose within it. Iโ€™m not a prose writer. Iโ€™m trying a lot of different things.”

The story explores “uncomfortable truths about land and what it means to destroy it.” Details remain scarce, but the play follows Harrisโ€™ previous success with Slave Play, which earned 12 Tony nominations.

Heardโ€™s last film roles were in 2023’s In the Fire and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Her screen time in Aquaman 2 was reduced, sparking rumors of studio interference. Director James Wan later clarified that her smaller role was always planned.

Since the trial, Heard moved to Madrid with her daughter Oonagh, 4, and newborn twins Agnes and Ocean. She announced the twinsโ€™ birth on Motherโ€™s Day 2025, calling motherhood “the most humbling experience.”

“When I had my first baby girl Oonagh four years ago, my world changed forever,” she wrote on Instagram. “Now I am bursting times three!!! Becoming a mother by myself and on my own terms despite my own fertility challenges has been the most humbling experience of my life.”

The Williamstown Theatre Festival is a prestigious event, with past performers like Christopher Reeve and Gwyneth Paltrow. Heardโ€™s return to the stage signals a fresh start after years of legal and media scrutiny.

Depp recently said he has “no regrets” about their past but called himself a “sucker” for falling in love without understanding true love. He is set to star in the upcoming film Day Drinker with Penรฉlope Cruz.

Heardโ€™s fans are excited for her comeback. Many praised her resilience on social media, though she has kept a low profile since leaving Hollywood.

The Williamstown Theatre Festival runs from July 17 to August 3, 2025. Tickets are available on their official website.
