BTS fans are angry after HYBE replaced a special banner dedicated to the group with one promoting SEVENTEEN. The change happened just weeks before BTS’s highly expected comeback and their annual Festa celebrations in June.
The original banner on HYBE’s Yongsan building read “BTS PRESENTS EVERYWHERE.” It was inspired by BTS leader RM’s idea for their 10th anniversary in 2023. The new banner says “SEVENTEEN WILL CHALLENGE ETERNITY,” celebrating SEVENTEEN’s 10th anniversary.
Fans say the timing is disrespectful. BTS members are returning from military service soon, and June is traditionally their month for Festa events. Many ARMYs believe HYBE is ignoring BTS’s legacy by replacing their banner right before their comeback.
“HYBE better rip that off before June starts.”
“So HYBE really replaced ‘BTS represents everywhere’ with a slogan for a group that wouldn’t even be here without BTS opening the doors? The audacity to erase the name that built your billion-dollar tower.”
“It was Namjoon’s unique idea to display this on the HYBE building. It’s been done on a building built by BTS’ success, on BTS’ personal request. Now SEVENTEEN is using the same idea just days before Festa.”
BTS has been with HYBE (formerly Big Hit Entertainment) since their debut in 2013. They helped turn the company from a struggling label into a global music giant. SEVENTEEN, another popular HYBE group under Pledis Entertainment, is also successful but joined HYBE later through an acquisition.
Fans argue that while SEVENTEEN deserves promotions, using the same concept as BTS feels like copying. Some also point out that HYBE has reused BTS ideas for other groups before, like the “In the SOOP” reality show format.
SEVENTEEN is celebrating their 10th anniversary with a new album, Happy Burstday, and a three-day “B-DAY PARTY” starting May 23. Their fans, CARATs, are excited about the promotions. But ARMYs feel HYBE should have waited until after June to replace the BTS banner.
BTS’s Festa is a month-long celebration of their debut anniversary on June 13. Even during their military service, the group made sure to keep the tradition alive. RM’s idea to wrap the HYBE building in 2023 was meant to reassure fans that BTS would always be present, even while apart.
Now, with members like Jin and J-Hope already back from the military, and RM, V, Jimin, and Jungkook returning in early June, ARMYs see this as a crucial moment. They want HYBE to honor BTS’s contributions instead of replacing their tributes.
“This better be gone by June 1st like that’s purple month.”
“Stealing Namjoon’s idea, where’s the originality? HYBE intern better tear it up before that building’s REAL OWNERS come home in 30 days.”
This isn’t the first time HYBE has faced backlash for how it treats BTS compared to other groups. Earlier this year, MBC faced criticism for suggesting SEVENTEEN “built up” HYBE’s headquarters. ARMYs quickly corrected that BTS’s success saved the company long before SEVENTEEN joined.
As June approaches, fans are watching HYBE’s next moves. With BTS’s full group return just weeks away, many hope the company will recognize their impact instead of overshadowing their moment.
