The story of Billy the Kid on MGM+ has reached its final chapter. The popular Western drama will not return for a fourth season, concluding with its third season which aired its finale on November 23, 2025. The show’s conclusion was a planned decision, bringing the outlaw’s saga to a natural end.
Why Billy the Kid Season 4 Is Not Happening
Billy the Kid was officially renewed for a third and final season back in October 2024. The network confirmed from the start that the third season would be the show’s last, designed to complete a three-season story arc.
The show’s star, Tom Blyth, who played the iconic outlaw, acknowledged the finale. He shared that he knew the series was always intended to run for three seasons. โIt was an odd thing to wrap it up in Season 3 and to know that it was ending,โ Blyth said, adding, โIโm very proud of it, and Iโm proud of the people who are involved.โ
The historical reality of Billy the Kid’s life also contributed to the show’s conclusion. The real-life figure died at the age of 21, creating a natural endpoint for the series narrative. Creator Michael Hirst developed the show with a clear vision to bring the story to a proper conclusion without stretching it beyond its core plot.
How Season 3 Provided a Fitting Ending
The show’s final season delivered a complete story for its characters. The eight-episode season followed Billy the Kid and his Regulators on a final vengeful quest after their defeat in the Lincoln County War. The finale saw Billy returning to New Mexico to seek revenge against Thomas Catron, finding an unlikely partner in the Governor’s daughter, Emily.
The season brought together the central character relationships, particularly between Billy and Jesse Evans, as well as his ongoing chase with Sheriff Pat Garrett. The final episodes provided closure for the characters, honoring the historical framework while allowing for a dramatically satisfying ending.
Cast Reactions to the Series Conclusion
With no Season 4 in the future, the cast has reflected on their time filming the series. Tom Blyth described the experience as “good weird, but itโs weird,” noting that the show was a major part of his career beginnings. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity and the people involved.
His co-star, Daniel Webber, who played Jesse Evans, also shared his feelings, calling the three years of filming the series some of the best of his life. Cast members took home set pieces and costumes as mementos to remember their time shooting in locations around Calgary.
