On the latest episode of JTBC’s reality show My Name is Gabriel, BLACKPINK’s Jennie temporarily left her superstar status behind to transform into “Maria,” a 1996-born farmhouse B&B owner from Paliano, a picturesque village near Rome, Italy.
In a candid pre-show interview, Jennie was asked the intriguing question: “What would you be doing if you weren’t a celebrity?” Her answer was reflective and thoughtful. “I talk about this with my friends frequently. I probably would have worked in fashion. I love planning, so I think I’d make a great event planner,” Jennie revealed. The BLACKPINK star expressed excitement about stepping into Maria’s life for a short while.
Jennie’s Italian adventure began after she wrapped up a fashion show in Capri and arrived at the farmhouse. She was greeted by a friendly woman, who initially left her slightly confused. It turned out to be Maria’s close friend, Roberta, who played a key role in welcoming Jennie to the ranch. Jennie admitted, “At first, I was flustered. It wasn’t easy to adapt.”
During the episode, Jennie grew close to a horse named Bambi, one of Maria’s favorites at the farm. Brushing Bambi’s mane, Jennie nostalgically shared memories from her own childhood. “It reminded me a lot of when I was young. I used to feed apples and carrots to horses. Even when my family called me back to Korea for the holidays while I was in New Zealand, I’d tell them I was staying at the horse farm,” Jennie reminisced.
Later, Jennie sat down for dinner with Maria’s mother, who had moved to the Italian countryside after suffering a stroke at 21. She spoke to Jennie about finding peace in rural life, saying, “Love is a choice. You could go elsewhere, but you choose not to.” Jennie listened intently, visibly moved by the depth of her words.
The following day, Jennie got a taste of her new duties as Maria. She went to the city to pick up guests, communicating easily in English as she drove three Italian young men back to the B&B. One of the guests hinted at an interesting twist in the next episode, remarking, “You look really familiar.”
My Name is Gabriel is a unique reality show that challenges celebrities to live as ordinary individuals for 72 hours in places where they are completely unknown, allowing them to experience life away from the spotlight. It airs every Friday at 10:30 PM on JTBC, offering viewers a refreshing perspective on their favorite stars.
