The French criminal underworld of Marseille is open for business once more. The gritty police thriller Blood Coast has returned to Netflix for its second season, plunging viewers back into a city on the edge. The new chapter arrives with a major shift: the show’s central hero is starting the season behind bars, leaving a dangerous power vacuum for new enemies to fill.

The six-episode season premiered globally on the streaming service on Monday, December 9, 2025. Just like the first season, all episodes were released at once for binge-watching. Netflix confirmed the release date on November 12, 2025, alongside the first teaser trailer.

Where to Watch Blood Coast Season 2

Blood Coast is a Netflix Original series. The second season, like the first, is available exclusively on Netflix worldwide.

The show is presented in its original French language. Netflix provides multiple dubbing options and subtitle tracks in numerous languages, making the series accessible to a global audience. A Netflix subscription is required to watch. The series is rated for mature audiences.

What Happened in Blood Coast Season 1?

The first season introduced Lyès Benamar (Tewfik Jallab), a police captain in Marseille who often operates outside the rules. He and his specialized team took extreme measures to stop a powerful drug trafficker named Franck Murillo (Nicolas Duvauchelle) from starting a gang war in the city.

Complicating their mission was the arrival of Alice Vidal (Jeanne Goursaud), an Interpol agent with her own agenda. The team also faced intense pressure from Internal Affairs, led by Commander Fabiani (Florence Thomassin), who was investigating their methods. The season ended with Lyès making a reckless move to draw out Murillo, triggering a violent response from a rival, Ali Saïdi (Samir Boitard). As Internal Affairs closed in, a major new discovery suddenly changed the entire direction of the case.

Blood Coast Season 2 Plot: A City Without Its Protector

Season 2 picks up with the situation in Marseille radically changed. Lyès Benamar is in prison. His absence creates a major disruption in the fragile balance of power he maintained.

With Lyès gone, his entire team, along with the other residents of Marseille, will end up facing the brunt of a huge power struggle and shift in the city.

A new and dangerous gang sees this as the perfect opportunity to move in. This group is more ruthless and ambitious, aiming to take complete control of Marseille’s lucrative drug trade. Lyès’s team, now exposed and vulnerable without their leader, must navigate streets that have become far more unpredictable and violent. They are forced to confront threats from which they are no longer protected.

The Returning Cast and New Creative Team

The core cast from the first season returns to reprise their roles for this new chaotic chapter.

  • Tewfik Jallab is back as the imprisoned police captain, Lyès Benamar.
  • Jeanne Goursaud returns as Interpol agent Alice Vidal.
  • Idir Azougli is back as Tatoo, a member of Lyès’s team.
  • Olivier Barthélémy returns as Arno Cabella, another key officer on the squad.
  • Lani Sogoyou is back as Audrey Ilunga.
  • Samir Boitard returns as the formidable Ali Saïdi.
  • Nicolas Duvauchelle is back as drug trafficker Franck Murillo.
  • Florence Thomassin returns as Commissioner Fabiani.

Behind the camera, creator Olivier Marchal remains the driving force. A former police officer himself, Marchal co-wrote the season alongside Edgar Marie (who worked on Season 1) and Olivier Dujols, a veteran screenwriter known for shows like The Bureau. While Marchal directed some episodes, he handed over directing duties for others to Nicolas Guicheteau, known for the series Spiral.

Filming took place on location in Marseille, the same city where the story is set, to maintain its authentic and gritty atmosphere. Production began in the winter of 2024 and was completed by the spring of 2025.

The Popularity of Blood Coast and Future Seasons

The renewal for a second season came after a very strong performance for the show’s debut. Blood Coast (originally titled Pax Massilia) premiered in December 2023 and quickly gained traction. It garnered 5.6 million views in its first four days, making it one of Netflix’s best European series launches at the time. The first season ranked in Netflix’s global top 10 list for three weeks straight across 83 different countries, amassing over 10 million total views.

This success has already sparked plans for the future. Reports from French media indicate that creator Olivier Marchal has begun writing a third season, with Netflix looking ahead to continue the story.
