Mnet’s new survival show Boys II Planet is coming soon. The show will create two boy groups, one Korean and one Chinese, who will debut at the same time. This is the first global K-pop twin project of its kind.
The Korean version, Boys II Planet K, will start on July 17, 2025, while the Chinese version, Boys II Planet C, will begin on July 18, 2025. Both shows will run at the same time with the same format but in different languages.
What Is Boys II Planet About?
Boys II Planet is a prequel to Boys Planet, the show that formed the group ZEROBASEONE. The new show will test contestants in singing, dancing, teamwork, and fan interaction. The final groups will have a 5-year contract, longer than ZEROBASEONE’s 2.5-year deal.
This is also the first time Chinese and Korean idols will perform together since China lifted its ban on Korean entertainment. The show aims to bring global talent together, with auditions held in multiple countries.
Rumored Contestants
Many trainees from existing K-pop groups are rumored to join. For the K-group, reports mention:
- Dongheon and Gyehyeon from VERIVERY
- Heechan and Harry-June from DKB
- Lee Hyeop and Dongyun from DRIPPIN
- Junseo from WEi (currently on a break)
- Junmin and Leejeong from WHIB
- Seowon from NINE.i
For the C-group, names like Guo Zhen, Zheng Ren Yu, Jie Yu Xin, Sun Jia Yang, Lynn Lynn, Suren, He Jun Jin, Hu Han Wen, Yi Chen, and Krystian Wang are circulating. Mnet has not confirmed the full list yet.
Auditions and Global Participation
Mnet opened global auditions for male contestants born before January 1, 2012, regardless of nationality. The application period for the C-group ended on March 2, 2025, while the K-group deadline was March 23, 2025.
Live auditions were held in Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore, Selangor, Taipei, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hong Kong. Online applications were also accepted with a one-minute talent video.
How Is This Different from Boys Planet?
Unlike Boys Planet, which formed one group, Boys II Planet will debut two separate groups that will also work together. The twin-group concept is similar to how EXO started with EXO-K and EXO-M.
The show’s producer, Kim Shin Young, said the theme is a “multiverse” where two groups exist in the same universe but have their own paths. This opens doors for more global K-pop collaborations.
Fan Reactions and Expectations
Fans are excited but also cautious after past survival show controversies. Many are curious about how the twin-group system will work. Some are also watching to see if former Boys Planet contestants like Lee Seunghwan (now soloist ONLEE) will return.
The show’s success could shape future K-pop survival programs, especially with China’s entertainment market reopening. With strong talent and a fresh format, Boys II Planet could be the next big thing in K-pop.
