BTS member V recently gave fans a deep look into his year in music by sharing his 2025 Spotify Wrapped statistics. The data highlighted his diverse listening habits, sparking online trends around a new music genre for many fans and a playful new nickname.
On December 5, 2025, V posted his personalized Spotify Wrapped summary on Weverse. The stats showed he listened to 4,611 songs, amounting to 27,729 minutes of music over the year. Among his top five genres was one that caught particular attention: Bedroom Pop. Alongside this discovery, V humorously captioned his post, writing, “At this point, I’m basically a rapper. Kim Tae-rap, Taebas”. This instantly ignited the “Kim Tae-rap” trend across social media platforms, with fans enthusiastically embracing the new moniker.
What Is Bedroom Pop? The Genre in V’s Wrapped Explained
For many fans seeing it in V’s Wrapped, “Bedroom Pop” was a new term. This music style is defined less by a specific sound and more by how and where it is made. True to its name, Bedroom Pop refers to music typically produced in home studios or bedrooms, not in professional commercial recording spaces. This do-it-yourself (DIY) approach gives the music an intimate, personal, and often raw quality.
The sound often features soft vocals, acoustic elements, and synthesizers, creating a relaxed and mellow tone. It commonly blends influences from dream pop, indie rock, and folk. The lyrics frequently explore personal themes like mental health, identity, and emotional vulnerability, contributing to the genre’s relatable and confessional feel.
The genre’s growth is tied closely to technology. The availability of affordable recording equipment and Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software has allowed artists to create full productions from their homes. They then share their work directly with a global audience using platforms like SoundCloud, YouTube, TikTok, and Spotify.
“Anyone can make music, and I think that is the ideology behind bedroom pop,” said Maia, the artist known as mxmtoon. “Bedroom, itโs more of an idea, of a person sitting in a small space and using whatever resources you have to make songs that youโre proud of”.
Spotify officially recognized Bedroom Pop as a distinct genre in 2018 by creating a dedicated playlist, helping to bring it to wider audiences.
A Look at Prominent Bedroom Pop Artists and Sounds
Many popular contemporary artists are associated with the Bedroom Pop movement. Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas are prime examples, having written and recorded Grammy-winning songs like “bad guy” in their home studio. During their Grammy acceptance speech, Finneas highlighted the genre’s spirit, saying, “This is for all of the kids who are making music in their bedroom today”.
Other key artists include Clairo, whose song “Pretty Girl” went viral on YouTube, and beabadoobee, who gained fame from a video of her singing “Coffee” in a friend’s bedroom. The list also features names like Rex Orange County, Cuco, girl in red (Marie Ulven), mxmtoon, Steve Lacy, and Phoebe Bridgers.
The genre is celebrated for its strong representation. The independent nature of Bedroom Pop allows artists from the LGBTQ+ community and people of color to freely express their identities and personal experiences. This authenticity deeply resonates with listeners, particularly Gen Z and millennials, who often seek music that shares deep, authentic feelings.
