Netizens believe he is the root of the problem.
Recently, actor Byeon Woo Seok’s security team received harsh backlash for its “over-the-top” behavior at the airport.
An online video revealed Byeon’s security guard using a flashlight at civilians to prevent them from filming. The video went viral online, with many criticizing the security team’s actions.
The security team CEO quickly admitted that “it was the security guard’s fault for having shone the flashlight” and “wished to deeply apologize for making civilians uncomfortable.”
Most recently, although Byeon Woo Seok’s agency issued an official apology online, they still received criticism from netizens.
However, a recent community post garnered attention as netizen’s felt that the main cause of this incident was because of Byeon Woo Seok’s excessive “fan-service.”
In the first clip, the fan asks, “Why is your keyring so cute?” in which he responds by moving his bag to show off the keyrings.
Netizens felt that if he didn’t engage with the fans in the first place, things could have been different.
In the video below, Byeon continues to interact with fans as he is entering the gateway, causing more chaos.
In the clip below, he continues to bow and greet fans behind him on the escalator, which netizens felt was dangerous behavior.
Security have also been caught off guard by his sudden actions, such as running towards fans on his way out of a fan meeting.
Korean netizens felt that if he just apologized and expressed his fan service elsewhere, things would not have escalated this far.
- “As someone who didn’t watch the drama, even actors look dumb to me now.”
- “Stop feeding those fans with ‘fan service.’ Can’t you see how many people are working to protect you?”
- “You didn’t think these articles would come up if Dispatch posted an article defending you? Of course, rebuttal articles would appear if you defend yourself.”
- “The escalator clip looks dangerous.”
- “These posts wouldn’t appear if he apologized instead of wasting time with media play. All this is happening because Byeon didn’t apologize.”
- “Show the love for fans at your fan meeting. Why are you doing ‘fan service’ at the airport? Fans don’t understand why this has to become such a big deal, not only with security but also with the actor receiving criticism.”
- “In the second video, the male staff is trying hard to block the fans and the female staff is trying to get him to move along, but he keeps holding back to interact with fans…”
- “Enough is enough man..”
- “Wow he was like that even on the escalator…Man….”
- “Whether it’s the sasaengs rushing for him to look at him or the actor interacting with the sasaengs….they are both strange. Normal fans don’t go to the airport..those that do are sasaengs.”
- “We’re tired of this too. But why are posts like this coming out? See the article defending him by using other idol incidents? Try attacking the agency and media first.”
- “What’s with this..both the fans and the actor….”
- “He’s in his mid 30s…stop with the celebrity play…and stop feeding the sasaengs.”
