Political commentator Candace Owens is once again at the center of a social media storm. This time, she is not just battling the legacy of Charlie Kirk or the leadership of Turning Point USA (TPUSA). She is now publicly accusing the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) of manipulating its trending topics to make her look aggressive and angry.
On April 2, 2026, Owens shared screenshots on her X account showing a direct comparison between her original tweet and the headline that X’s system attached to it. She claims the platform stripped away the polite tone of her request and replaced it with a narrative of rage to fit a specific bias.
Here is what happened, how Blake Neff responded, and how the internet reacted to the allegations of a rigged system.
The Tweet vs. The Trend
The disagreement started when Candace Owens made a public request to Blake Neff, a representative for TPUSA. Owens has been asking for the release of specific video footage from an Aspen retreat. She claims that in this video, which was recorded weeks before his death, Charlie Kirk names his wife Erika Kirk as his official successor.
In her original post on X, Owens used soft, polite language. She wrote:
“Love this. Can you please release the video you shot in Aspen of him naming her as his successor a couple of weeks before he died? Just feel that it would go a long way.”
However, when the topic began trending on X, the algorithm did not use her original wording. The trending headline displayed on the platform read: “Candace Owens Demand Aspen Video of Charlie Kirk Naming Successor.”
Owens immediately noticed the difference in tone. She posted a side-by-side comparison, pointing out that the platform swapped the word “please” for the aggressive term “Demand.”
‘I’m Starting to Enjoy How Biased Twitter Trends Are’
Rather than just letting the moment pass, Candace Owens doubled down on her accusation. She claimed that the platform, which she has previously labeled an “Israeli opp,” is intentionally spinning her words to hurt her image.
She wrote in a follow-up post:
“I can’t explain it but I’m starting to enjoy how biased Twitter trends are against me. Here is what I said vs. how it is being reported as an X trend. X is really just an Israeli opp but I plan to stay LOL.”
She added a sarcastic remark about the intensity of the headline, joking that the platform made it sound like she was holding a knife.
“Me: makes a polite request. X trend: Candace Owens RAGES and DEMANDS with knife in hand.”
This is not the first time Owens has questioned the moderation and algorithms of major tech platforms. She has often argued that conservative voices are suppressed or misrepresented on social media, but her claim that the bias is specifically pro-Israel added a new layer of controversy to the discussion.
The Internet Fires Back: ‘You Smear People All Day’
While Candace Owens expected sympathy for being misrepresented, a significant portion of the internet did not buy her argument. Many users pointed out that even with the word “please,” the act of publicly demanding internal video evidence from an organization is inherently aggressive.
One user directly challenged Owens’ claim of being polite:
“You have demanded video of Aspen. You smear people all day, you have no room to talk.”
Others pointed out that Turning Point USA and Blake Neff do not owe her any footage, regardless of how nicely she asks. A netizen wrote:
“So because you said ‘please’ it’s not a demand? Ok, sis. And exactly why do you think you have the right to ask for anything from TPUSA? Do you work there? Do you donate money to them? Maybe you should accept that they owe you nothing.”
Some critics argued that she was playing the victim to distract from the real issue: her ongoing campaign against Erika Kirk. One commenter stated:
“It summarized what you said. Again nothing to see here folks. Just her projecting that she’s a victim of X by Israeli psyop what a joke you have become. Charlie if he could see you now would be ashamed but probably not surprised.”
Blake Neff Responds to the Video Request
The tension between Candace Owens and TPUSA has been building for months. Since Charlie Kirk’s death in September 2025, Owens has openly questioned the organization’s transparency. She has repeatedly asked why Erika Kirk was named CEO so quickly after the tragedy.
Blake Neff eventually responded to her request for the Aspen video. However, his reply was not an apology or a delivery of the tape. Instead, Neff told Owens that he had not bothered sharing the video with her because he knew she would not believe it anyway.
This response suggests that the relationship between Owens and the leadership of TPUSA has broken down to a point where no amount of evidence would settle the dispute.
A Pattern of Scrutiny Against Erika Kirk
This latest dispute over X trends is just one piece of a much larger puzzle. Candace Owens has been one of the loudest voices questioning Erika Kirk’s leadership.
At the AmFest convention, TPUSA played an audio recording of Charlie Kirk allegedly saying he wanted his wife to take over. Owens immediately questioned the authenticity of the audio, asking, “Why won’t they release the video? Surely, if they captured the audio, they have the video.”
Owens has claimed that Erika Kirk is unqualified to run the organization. She has also suggested that the succession plan was not legitimate. The tension escalated to the point where Erika Kirk sent Owens a cease-and-desist letter. Owens publicly mocked the letter, calling it “gay” and refusing to back down.
Most recently, former President Donald Trump entered the fray. Speaking at the White House Easter Lunch, Trump spotted Erika Kirk and advised her to sue her critics. He told her, “I think you should sue ‘em. They’re so jealous of Erika.”
Candace Owens responded to Trump’s comments by mocking the President, claiming he is “fully Jewish now” and acting like an Israeli by telling people to sue instead of answering questions about Kirk’s death.

The Charlie Kirk Assassination Investigation
The reason all of these accusations matter is the unresolved nature of Charlie Kirk’s death. Tyler Robinson is currently the suspect in the assassination that occurred at Utah Valley University.
Owens has caused significant controversy by suggesting that the evidence against Robinson is weak. She pointed to a ballistics report that was inconclusive regarding a bullet fragment. However, prosecutors have stated that this inconclusive finding does not exonerate Robinson. Other evidence includes his DNA on the rifle, surveillance footage, and text messages admitting to the act.
Despite this, Candace Owens has used her platform to suggest that others, including the Biden administration or foreign interests, might be responsible. Her call for the Aspen video is part of her broader argument that Erika Kirk and TPUSA are hiding the truth about the organization’s internal workings before the shooting.
